The thing that got the ball rolling was reading the Book of Mormon one day and suddenly realizing that what I was reading was an obvious plagiarism from one of Paul's epistles. It was as clear as anything, and I found a lot more just looking in the Book of Mormon index. I knew I wasn't dealing with an ancient record. I managed to believe in it as "inspired fiction" for 7 more years, but that was the beginning of the end for me.
The fact that scripture/religious teachings were not in harmony with the very essence of our universe. In other words, the universe (life) does not work in the way scripture/prophets/LDS doctrine suggest it does. Religious teachings are at odd with nature and the cosmos.
