Just admit when you are wrong, Trevor!
Charity, you do not arrive at an average with the lowest age of marriage being the calculated average! Get real.

You must need a nap. Of course, an average means that there are younger and older to get an average. Duh! But when you say that brides and grooms are teenagers, you are obviously wrong. Just own up. You didn't know as much as you thought you did.
Suicide consists in the voluntary and intentional taking of one's own life, particularly where the person involved is accountable and has a sound mind.
Mortal life is a gift of God; it comes according to the divine will, is appointed to endure for such a time as Deity decrees, and is designed to serve as the chief testing period of man's eternal existence. It is the probationary state or time during which man is tried and tested physically, spiritually, and mentally.
No man has the right to run away from these tests, no matter how severe they may be, by taking his own life. Obviously persons subject to great stresses may lose control of themselves and become mentally clouded to the point that they are no longer accountable for their acts. Such are not to be condemned for taking their own lives. It should also be remembered that judgement is the Lord's; he knows the thoughts, intents, and abilities of men; and he in his infinate wisdom will make all things right in due course.
We can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark; the real tragedy of life is when men are afraid of the light. - Plato
Mister Scratch wrote:CFR, Charity. This is totally bogus. The vast majority of the couples I saw when I was last at Temple Square were 18-19 years old, or perhaps 21-22 for the males (I.e., the RMs), tops. We have all read and heard the exhortations from the Brethren encouraging young LDS to get married ASAP, preferably as soon as the young men get back from their missions, so it should come as no surprise that teenaged kids constitute a significant number of temple marriages. I would be interested in seeing some figures, though know the Church, this stuff is probably top secret.
I realize you probably won't accept stats from that well known Mormon apologetic group, the U.S. Census Bureau, but here it is anyway.
"Although the 2000-2003 U.S. Census Bureau data showed Utah had the lowest average age of marriage in the country-about 24 years of age for men and 22 for women, some three years younger than the national average for each gender-statistics say the age has increased among Latter-day Saints.
In the 1994 book "Contemporary Mormonism," a compilation of information about the LDS Church, data showed the average marriage age for Latter-day Saints was 22.3 years for males and 21.0 years for females. Although the average marriage age for Utahns may not mirror that of Latter-day Saints, there is a strong correlation between the two."
Why would I apologize? I said that I saw many very, very young couples getting married at temple square, and these statistics bear out my observations. Your stats say that Utah has the youngest average marriage age in the nation. Your second statistic from Contemporary Mormonism is almost dead-on vis-a-vis my estimate. You seem to be getting defensive for some reason. Are you perhaps worried that the Church encourages couples to marry at too young an age?
I think in the case of some people their unwillingness to commit suicide is the real sin.

When I say, "brides and grooms are teenagers," I am obviously wrong? Are you some kind of moron? That statement is patently stupid. Obviously some brides and grooms are teenagers. I have an idea, charity. Why don't you reread your posts before you hit "submit." It will save you from looking stupid as much as you do. I know you aren't stupid, so I can only attribute these gaffs to your rapid-fire posting habits. Just think to yourself, "write, read, edit, reread, submit." I have all the faith in the world that you can do it. I'm pulling for you!

charity wrote:What are you referring to about queues to be married in the temple? Queues mean long lines. ?????
The last time I was at Temple Square, there was indeed something akin to a "queue" outside the temple---I.e., a "line," as it were, of 18- and 19-year-old kids waiting to be married.
Thanks. By jeez I'm that age. That is sick. How can people brainwash people so much as to have that happen.
You have been given wrong information. In the United States, people can be married civilly (for time)and for eternity in the same ceremony in the temple. The sealers are authorized to perform civil marriages. To be married and sealed, the couple must bring a county (civil)marriage license to the temple. Sealers do not perform sealings only on unmarried couples.
The only lines we have at the Portland Temple will be wedding parties (after the ceremony) who all want to have their wedding photos taken at the "scenic spots" around the temple--the reflecting pond, the fountain, the front of the temple.
And about the ages of the couples. The 18 or 19 year old is definiately a rarity. Most couples are out of their teens. Eatly to mid-twenties at least.
I knew that you could marry in the temple. Here we have to marry in a church and then a temple. This is because the queen want to be able to come to any wedding and she cannot enter the temples.

I learned something. I didn't know that was the reason a marriage was required first. So you would say that wasn't really a civil marriage since it occurs in a church building? Are all UK marriages church marriages?

Poor Trevor. You got caught with your pants down and now you are throwing mud because you are embarrassed. You asked for a source. I provided one, which you obviously thought I wouldn't be able to do, which refuted your "teenage marriage" comment which was no doubt shot from the hip.
Oh, yes. I haven't heard any "get married as soon as you can advice" from anyone in 25 years. In fact, girls are encouraged to get educations. You know how unreliable men are. A girl can't depend on the knight on the white horse not turning out to be a jobless wimp on a donkey.

Elder Nelson advised having children ASAP. Check out this article:
Unless Elder Nelson thinks that having children out of wedlock is a-okay, then I think we must therefore assume that this is also a commandment to marry as soon as possible too.
