I want to add my kudos to the folks who put together IRR. There's some really good stuff on that site, which, being online, has been easy for me to access. I am sorry to hear about Luke Wilson's demise. Sounds like he had a rough couple of years.
Overall, I greatly dislike the Christian crusade against Mormonism. On the other hand, everyone involved in this mess, on all sides, is a human being, and as such I both sympathize with them in their sufferings and to a limited degree take pleasure in their joys. It is regrettable that religious fervor is taken as justification for hate. Some of the LDS comments about Luke are frankly ugly bigotry tarted up in theological attire, and frankly no better than anti-Mormon prejudice.
“I was hooked from the start,” Snoop Dogg said. “We talked about the purpose of life, played Mousetrap, and ate brownies. The kids thought it was off the hook, for real.”
My impression of Luke Wilson is spot on with Chris'. About seven years ago or so he had uploaded a statement on the Book of Mormon put out by the Smithsonian, which contained 8 points. Subsequently the Smithsonian added a ninth point which said the Institute had a copy of the Book of Mormon is its collections.
I grilled Wilson for intentionally deleting that ninth point because it made the Book of Mormon sound somewhat on par with the Bible. Luke was extremely gracious towards me even though my attitude towards him was condescending. He emailed me back to let me know that he had no knowledge of a second statement put out by the Institute and that he immediately made the change on his website.
Pahoran is a jackass of all jackasses, and it is downright sickening to see Dan Peterson DEFEND him.
Dan Peterson is the same guy who held me in contempt for so long, simply because I had said an LDS scholar from the 70's had made stupid arguments with regards to the Lehi Stone and the allusions to Nephi and the entire family. That scholar died some time ago, so Dan thought my criticisms were "repulsive." Yet, Pahoran, his right hand man, can speak ill of a dead critic on the day of his death, and DCP can't bring himself to say a freaking word!! Instead, when someone steps up to the plate and says what DCP can't bring himself to say, he ironically accuses everyone else of failing to criticize those on the other side of the fence.
Dan, why don't YOU be a man and start practicing what you preach? When in the hell have you EVER criticized one of yor own for doing the exact same things you claim make you sick, when someone at MD does it?

Paul Osborne wrote:You will get no words of compassion from me. I'm glad he is dead. The Book of Mormon pretty much sums up what I think of that man. Therefore, I believe the chains of hell are his prison. If you don't like what I think - too bad. I believe the Book of Mormon and surely that man was fighting against the Church of the Lamb, even Zion. He will have his reward. Other than believing he is on the left hand of God, I really have little more to say.
The Book of Mormon has judged him, not me. So, don't anyone give me the liberal "judge not" the sinner crap. (Are we allowed to say crap in the middle kingdom?)

Your lying, philandering, charlatan of a founder dispensed with the Book of Mormon's version of hell.

(I lost access to my Milesius account, so I had to retrieve this one from the mothballs.)
This is what I said on MA&D. I replied back to Pahoran who said, this:
"That said, I do hope the Lord will treat him better than he deserves."
I replied with: "I think the whole point of the atonement is that we will all be treated better than we deserve. Of course, he will be in a better place. I just wonder how surprised he will be at what he finds there."
Can you tell me something that is objectionable about that?
1. We are all sinners who need mercy.
2. He will be in a better place. (That doesn't say "hell" to me.)
3. And what do you think a Mormon thinks an anti-Mormon will find there? That he was wrong. Big surprise. I have saiod my Mom, an atheist, is going to be surprised, and I certianly didn't mean it in any mean fashion. I think we will all be surprised to some degree or another. I just think anti-Mormons are going to be a little more surprised than most.
Please show me the cruetly, lack of compassion, etc. that has been charged.

No, Charity. Frankly, if your conscience doesn't inform you of the same, then neither can we.
The road is beautiful, treacherous, and full of twists and turns.
You are free to have your opinions but I was taught that especially in times of mourning, sickness, and pain that if you don't have something nice to say, say nothing at all. Somethings are best left unsaid.
To quote Charity: "Didn't your mother teach you anything!"
I think it would be morally right to lie about your religion to edit the article favorably. bcspace

So there wasn't anuthing objectionable, and you can't admit it, so you throw out the "well if you don't know, I won't tell you" line?
Please, treat me like the idiot you think I am, and point to me ONE objectionable thing that my post said.
Was it about us all needing mercy? You don't think we do?
Was it about Mr. Wilson being in a better place? You don't think he will?
Was it about being surprised? Since we all will be, he shouldn't for some reason?
