I tried to use the tinyurl site to create links to them from here, but that didn't work either. I'm wondering if they've just blocked all off-site links? But then Google wouldn't work, so I guess that can't be it.

I really don't get this. I understand their desire to "poke the eye" of scorners and mockers from this board or RFM that link to their board to make fun of them. But to block links from a site that takes them seriously enough to actually engage the meat of their Book of Mormon apologia?

I know I'm biased, but it seems to me that this simply makes them look ridiculous and controlling - like I said, it reminds me of what we hear about scientology.

I think the blocking is a bad idea. I can understand why they would block this board, RFM, and Postmo, because of the venom against Mormonism, but blocking a critical site with no venom reflects badly. I would be interested to hear what Mormon posters have to say about the site, and I think it would even be a good idea for someone to start a thread on MADB and discuss it. I'm afraid this does smack of censorship. I'm all for free discussion and debate of issues relative to the Book of Mormon, and think it's vitally important.

The irony is that now a new thread on MAD is complaining that CARM won't allow links to LDS sites.

A quote from that thread, from a poster I've never seen before named Trencher7

I really worry for the CARMites. Every day they tend to exhibit more cultlike behavior. More and more they ban opposing views and prevent their posters from being able to see outside influences that might shake their own sheltered beliefs. Isolating your members is a true sign of a cult. More and more I see unquestioning devotion to Matt SLick and his twisted views. I am very afraid Rev. Slick will be planning a CARM retreat in Guyana soon where they can all be safe from "non-Christian" influences and "propaganda".

Consistency was never their forté.

by the way - may I make a suggestion?

On each page, in the html code, there is something called <title> - whichever html editor you are using automatically inserts New Page 1 into that slot. That's what determines what is displayed in the tab and title bar of a browser. So as I navigate your site, each page is seen as "New Page 1" in my browser. You may wish to go through and add the correct page title (i.e., on the home page put "The Book of Mormon in Ancient Mesoamerica - Home"; on the next page put "Who Were the Ancient Inhabitants of Mesoamerica?", etc.).

Yeah, I noticed that, skippy, but didn't know why it was happening. I'll put that on my "to do" list.

And this surprises anyone... why?

One more time: at no point does MAD want to actually engage critics or their arguments. MAD exists to feed Juliann's ego (#1) and give LDS apologists a Rameumpton on which to stand (#2). There is simply nothing surprising about them not allowing a link to Beastie's site. I expected nothing else.

I really don't think it's a good idea for MADB to do this, because it gives wrong impressions (or maybe right ones?), but it's still not a capital offense. All one has to do is copy and paste to a browser. Doing this won't win them any kudos. Even I think it's poor form, but the solution is simple. This act doesn't make them Scientologists, or ogres.

No, it just makes them Juliann, which is only to be expected.

I have no personal animosity nor obsession against Juliann. In fact, I rather like her, because I can see and understand her point of view as well. And failing to do so is what creates the barriers, and the prejudice. I know Juliann is MDB's "dart board", but I'm not one interested in throwing the darts.
