John Gee will be at the Olivewood Bookstore on 3330 North University Ave Ste C in Provo on June 19th from 7:30 to 8:30pm. He will be giving a free lecture discussing the message of the Joseph Smith Papyri.
Those who wish to ask questions must present their PHD in Egyptology along with their current Temple Recommends. Daniel C. Peterson will be on hand as a "clipping service" for taking information on anyone who wishes to question Gee.
Coats, bags and brains must be checked at the door.

Are you going?
I wish I could go just so I could see Will for the first time.
You just know his head will be in Gee's ass.

Thank you for that important contribution Mr. Scratch. What a mantel, to be the hired gun for the church on the most difficult aspect of Mormonism.
The credential argument is fascinating. Let me tell you where I've heard it before. When I was a teenager, I was very interested in the idea of free energy and was led into works by professional physicists who held "cranky" theories and patents on free-energy devices. In one video I watched, it was asked how one begins the study of the theoretical underpinnings of free energy and the response was basically, all the post-graduate training in physics you could get. Don't question, or even try to understand this "obscure academic topic" unless you're a Phd.
As a parallel, important peer-reviewed physics journals to my knowledget do not engage either of these "obscure academic topics". Real academics have either dismissed these pseudo-scientific ideas out of hand, have no interest, don't like confrontations, or just plain wish to be charitable and no rain on someones acid parade.
It's NOT the joke of the century that anonymous posters with no formal training in egyptology give their opinions on the Book of Abraham, it's the joke of the century that credentialed professors with highly technical training in Egyptology seek out discussions on their foremost area of specialization with anonymous posters on the internet with no formal training in Egyptology because their peers have no interest.

No, I won't be attending. Listening to people like Gee or Peterson is like subjecting yourself to torture.
I can't fathom how these apologists live with themselves knowing the mountain of damning evidence against their so called evidences. Peterson has an ego the size of Mt. Olympus, Gee I don't know as well.
by the way Dart, excellent post on the KEP and Book of Abraham. I nabbed it this morning on the MC. Took a half an hour just to format it.
Cheers,
