Droop,

you've had your butt kicked on this board ad nausium for being the clown in AlandDeb's type threads. You hardly countenance much, if any, of the redeeming qualities of what you claim to be a member of. Wisdom is the principle thing, and with all your getting, get some understanding.

Or in other words, address the topic at hand rather than attempt to turn the issue from the spotlight of scrutiny.

What first hand accounts and primary sources did he study?

I find it curious that here is a person trying to convince you that there are accounts and sources that prove you wrong or which would at least vindicate the church regarding your views, without supplying or quoting them.

If I put myself in his place, truly cared about you as a friend and were truly worried/distressed about your decision, I'd drop a TON of evidence on you to the contrary of what you were forwarding at the outside chance it would influence you in the other direction. That is to say, I'd pull out all the documented "stops" I had at my disposal.

And welcome to the board, AlandDeb!

Really got to you, didn't it? Right where it hurts, in the heart and in the conscience...the seared conscience.

Here's a link to a summary of information on the Philo Dibble stone (its provenance, discussions of it in various accounts and other literature, the last date of sale (1993), which is earlier than I had remembered).

You, and *hubby*, keep talking about Joseph Smith and polygamy. This issue pisses me off more than anything. The church has done a great dis-service to itself and its members by not setting the record straight. I have studied this subject, not the garbage blogs on the internet, but the actual first hand testimonies and primary sources, and there is no evidence whatsoever that Joseph Smith practiced polygamy. I REPEAT, THERE IS NO EVIDENCE WHATSOEVER!

This, unfortunately, and subsequent statements, sends the entire thing into the ashcan. He claims to have returned to the Church and to now be a faithful Latter Day Saint, and yet, what do we see in reality? He still will not follow the prophets, and is in denial about a substantive point of doctrine, to the point of the outright denial of known historical facts.

What we see here is someone who still cannot, or will not accept the entire Gospel, free of his own prejudices, preconceptions, and traditions. He still wants it to be his Gospel, and not the Lord's. He will only accept it so far, and then...

He begins to steady the Ark, and pass judgment on the Lord's servants, and wallow in double think.

I wonder how long this person will remain in the Church this second time around before another crisis rocks his boat to the point of separation from the Saints?

No, but you do remind me of the guy who steps into the middle of a group of decent and unassuming black brothers and yelling "N*****!".

Unless you can somehow tie your comments into the topic I think you are attempting to railroad yet another thread.

Why don't you run along, Droopy. We're talking about things that are important to us here.

Seems lots of members think their particular way of understanding the teachings/doctrine/belief is the right way and if someone differs they are either not righteous enough to understand, too stupid, misled, or steadying the ark.

I'm guessing the person who wrote this nasty letter would suggest apologists are the ones not in line with church leaders, or not able to embrace the truth, or unable to accept further light and knowledge, or something along these lines.

Both types of believers condemn the other, believe the HG has confirmed their particular ideas, and consider others who view the church teachings/doctrine differently as inferior members.

Oh well...

Whoa, there are some smart mother truckers in this room, and I fear that I will make the room a little less intelligent by just being here..oh well.. ;-)

Yeah, I think most of you hit the nail on the head. He is exactly the type of guy you described to a tee. I am not going to talk to him again since we ended our friendship. I'm not that sad over it.. I'm telling the people who matter the least about my unbelief and then working my way to the top of the list LOL

My husband, on the other hand, would like to strangle him... slowly.

Thanks for all your kind words and welcoming us to the board! We've been lurkers for a while now..
