There seems to be a proportion of people who will follow a leader, regardless of how absurd the commandment. The MMM thread here reminds me that there are LDS out there who would, without hesitation, murder if they felt it came to them from God via Monson. We could give example after example of horrible acts committed by those following the orders of the wackos, power-hungy, and self-declared messiahs.

Coincidentally, they had a documentary on the Heaven's Gate cult last night. They interviewed members, some of whom still believe it's true, and they are sorry that they missed out on the group suicide.

Going back to the 15 year old daughter question: I believe some would give her up without hesitation, others wouldn't like it but would do it out of a sense of duty, some would not do it but feel a sense of guilt about it (falling short in the eyes of God), and a few (the sane) might be jolted out of the Mormon dream and say "WTF?".

What is so weird about this is...

Doing what is hurtful and completely abusive and sick is seen as good by some believers, while caring for ones daughter is equivalent to being unrighteous and disobedient.

One would think that the more righteous and loving people were those who cared for their children, not those who would give their daughters to old men for their sexual use.

It is all so backward to me.

If the OP was about Bednar, I'd have no problem seeing the "sexual use" part. He's young enough to do some sheet shakin'. But with Pres Monson? C'mon. He's 80 something and he has diabetes. If he could raise an ounce of libido, even with Viagra, I'd be surprised.

I hear what you're saying, and I agree, but Monson and sex? Highly unlikely.

Well, John Taylor was 79 when he died, and married his sixteenth wife shortly before his death. I'm pretty sure she was around 19 or so.

Gag.

Question, BC. Do you believe the FLDS wives are blindly following the prophet when he asks for their daughters hand in marriage?

No. Are you going to answer the question?
