Well, in the sense of fairness, could you please keep an open mind about Xenu, Buddah, Zeus, Vulcan, and a million other gods that are worshipped, but we haven't found any proof yet?

Now you've switched from archeological evidence to faith.

Fair enough, I did switch on you there.

I think you should give equal spiritual testing to each of these to see if you get a spiritual confirmation,

What's my incentive?

That you won't go to hell if one of these other religions is more true than Mormonism.

since evidence is irrelevant.

I never said or implied that.

You said, Thus, going down this path in the search for the truth of God will always be fruitless. I took that to mean that evidence is irrelivent.

Does Hephaistos have any scripture to that effect?

You came up with that erroneously because you switiched from archeological evidence to matters of faith.

I was watching a documentary on Nordic archeological finds over the weekend. Using bits of metal found that are over a 1000 years old they can deduce exactly how hot the ovens were, how their blacksmiths hammered and forged the weapons and so on and so forth.

The idea that the whole of the society can bloom and reach such pinnacles and we can't find one Jewish Temple, one synagogue, one coke oven, one picture of a horse, etc. blows the bind. It is simply ridiculous. There is better evidence that the Trojans had hovercrafts than the Nephite society existed.

He found Zelph and a few Book of Mormon era trinkets.

Joseph Smith was the Indiana Jones of the 19th century. Beside's Zelph's bones, he discovered Moroni's gold plates, Abraham and Joseph's lost scrolls, the Kinderhook plates and the skeleton of a descendant of Ham, and the Garden of Eden. He also knew where the lost 10 tribes lived, and what moon men looked like, but he didn't have the resourcs or technology to "discover" them.

Spielberg and Lucas should retire Indiana Jones and start a new adventure series featuring Joseph Smith.

To the dismay of Farms/MI/Fair, most active members are Meldrumites and believe just about anything they hear in their chapel.

This reminds me of a plane ride next to a TBM, who was ever more amazed at the boatloads of new artifacts being found in South America that PROVE the Book of Mormon is true.

C'mon Scottie!

Is this your best pitch in an attempt to become a GA?

I mean, does anyone really believe these "plane ride" stories any more?

Next you'll be telling us that you met Mick Jagger on a plane, and he accepted a copy of RSR from you.

(Millions upon millions in the civilization in the book. Where is any evidence at all?

Why does there need to be? The Bible has some confirmations yet I'm sure many in this board don't accept it as the word of God.)

Whether the Bible is the word of God or not has no bearing. It is in many ways a record of a people and a number of their cities and historical memorabilia can be found today.

What has been found of the Book of Mormon civilizations? Any of them from Nephites, Jaredites or whateverites? Millions upon millions of people if the book is to be read literally. All those people would leave some mark on the land that can be traced directly to the timeframe the book claims.

SOMETHING would be left of these 'great civilizations'.

Nah, wouldn't work. They'd make "Raiders of the Lost Ark", and it would be like 10 minutes long, because Joseph Smith would find it under the very next thing they ran across, but then he'd erect a tent over it, and go in that tent by himself, then come out again and say "yep, it's the Ark of the Covenant alright", but nobody else would be allowed into the tent, because Joseph would say that God told him not to show it to anyone else, and then the movie would end, and the audience would be all pissed off and leave the theater, the movie would tank, and Spielberg would be out of a job.

What a stupid idea, SatanWasSetUp!

The Bible makes a plethora of claims, and each is assessed on the evidence.

For a very 'pro' Bible view, start here. But even though this outfit takes a skepticism-light, 'dry' bible-oriented approach (like my BIL does a dry Martini: pour Gin into glass, and wave bottle of Vermouth over the top), they do not claim events such as the exodus have conclusive evidence supporting historicity.

The Bible is a great example actually - where the evidence exists, a historical basis is accepted. Where evidence is lacking, the event in question is suspect.

Sadly there has been no evidence found for the really cool stuff, like miracles. Just for stuff like the existence of specific people and places, and events which leave physical evidence. So we can say that Jerusalem was taken around 600BC by the Babylonians, (hey, evidence for an event mentioned in the Book of Mormon as well!), but If I recall correctly there is no evidence for the existence of the first temple.
