Actually, you are incorrect. The example I gave earlier in the thread is a friend of mine who works in IT for Church Headquarters. He is salaried.
My relative is not salaried. He does, however, receive health insurance through the Church, and his travel expenses are covered through the Church. He is a member of the Quorum of the 12....considerably higher than the 2nd Quorum.

Some, yes. Not all.
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.
I do agree with Scratch on the fact that, I think the Church needs to be more honest in their presentation of what a paid and unpaid clergy consists of.
As a member, I don't begrudge my tithing dollars going to help GA's travel, or missionary expenses, etc. I don't think that it really bothers most members.
What is annoying is to be told one thing when another is actually happening.
Instead of rather proudly professing that the Church has a "completely volunteer" clergy, and stating quite publicly that Church callings are unpaid is inaccurate.
It would be fair to say that local clergy is volunteer. Bishops, primary workers, youth leaders, etc. are not paid any type of salary or stipend.
However, upper levels in Church clergy, such as GA's, Apostles, Mission Presidents, etc. do receive scaled compensation for their Church service based upon their individual financial need at the time they are called.

I think all GA's should take a vow of poverty when they are called. Of course the Pope isn't doing to bad or televangelist . If I was the Pope I would make sure my pope-mobile had a Hemi engine.
