We all live with our own horrors every day. Did you think you were the only who was ever abused by someone they trusted? If we didn't get over it, we found a way to live with it without bombarding strangers with it. Usually we wait until we know someone for a day or two before we tell them of our rapes, our alcoholism, our abusers.

You all had a good poke at this story, why not get the truth? Or is it more pleasant for you to make comments out of turn, about something you know nothing about? Those comments would be about my history and character.

It helps to know who your friends are, or at least who isn't your enemy. You don't know us, we don't know you, and there are no comments "out of turn" on this board. Welcome to the forum. As a warning, there are a few die-hard TBMs here who would justify the actions of Hitler if they needed to in order to make the church look good, some more vocal than others, so prepare yourself for some extreme insensitivity.

I'd like to apologize for Harmony, and any others who greet you this way, though in her case I hope we can write it off as skepticism about your identity. You do have to admit that anyone can register on a forum like this under the name "RobertP" and claim to be this person. Further, you have to admit that if someone did this and made you look bad by doing it, you probably would have wanted people to have been skeptical of this persons identity, right? So in a way, they are just doing their job. So, by the very nature of what's going on here, the odds are stacked against you by dropping in anonymously on a forum to defend your case. I understand why you'd want to do it, but unofortunately, it's probably not in your best interests to do so. As I did not particpate in the thread on this last year, I will not participate in this one, at least, on topic. I can assure you, and I am nobody important I admit, but I assure you that if you are the real RobertP, that any of the "usual suspects" who are likely to have an extended conversation with you in this thread about your past are not worth your time speaking with and will just cause you more trouble.

I tell you all this because my mother was protected, she had just lost her daughter to murder. And to set the record straight on that also, she was in an argument with her boyfriend Steven ( Kimi had a short fuse. ) and to get away from him stuck out her thumb, right into Gary Ridgway's truck. ( don't beleive me, look at his own words, they are simular, they are online).
So, I ask is my mother culpable? Did she hand him the coat hanger?

I remember your story for a variety of reasons, (1) because it had to do with child sexual abuse, (2) I used to live in Tacoma and if I am not mistaken, Conger was the station manager at KIRO or held some other position. It was of interest to me, not knowing that the LDS Church owned KIRO and also included the Green River killer, that I'd heard about for so many years. I will have to go back to re-read the story in more detail for that's what I was responding to at the time. Since I don't have time right now to go read it, I'll try to wing it.

You made more than one mistake, Gad. I'll point those out by responding to your post in it's entirety. I wasn't planning to pursue the rest of it, but if you insist on driving the thread off course with your on-going "gag", let's take it all the way into the ditch.

- abuse began at hands of Paul Lewis(Joe in the article) (Scoutmaster, member of Mormon church)

1983 - family learned that Kimi Kai (sister) had been murdered

1983 - final worse incident of abuse occurred at Issaquah motel involving coat hanger

1984-85 - Mother reported abuse to local ward leaders and they filed with Robert a police report...nothing developed from that
report..mother told there wasn't enough evidence

1999 - Robert left Mormon church

2003 - H.O. Church spokesperson claims is when they first heard of the abuse..Paul Lewis must have been excommunicated
at this time..also Church offers to pay for counseling but according to mother counseling by Mormon therapist was
more damaging than beneficial

2004 - Mormon Bishop contacts Robert & mother on behalf of P Lewis who wants to return to church. Robert learns P. Lewis
has abused others since himself.

2006 - lawsuit filed by Robert to go to court Sept 2007

Based on the above, and not much more, I'd say the mother was not responsible, it was the Boys Scouts as they had no program at the time for prevention of abuse. The culture they provided enabled abuse to go unchecked and both Mormon church and boy Scout organizations encouraged parents and boys to trust Scout leadership and encouraged boys to join. It also appears that the report of the abuse to church leadership (1984) I believe a bishop only served to protect the abuser and did nothing to seek justice or rectify the situation. The police report apparently was also not handled well, with the guardian helping Robert file report being heavily involved in the church, while the mother it appears was not able to be very involved due to emotional and physical difficulties.

Nomomo: I remember this being discussed on another board previous to this board. If I am not mistaken, the incident you detailed wasn't the first time that the abuser had access to Robert. I'll go back through that article you used (from the original thread here), but there was more to it, as I recall. My recollect could be in error.

One small quibble, marg: LDS boys are not encouraged to join Scouts. It's mandatory that they join. There is no choice. They can choose to participate or not, but they are all automatically enrolled.
