To be honest I thought the joke was in context with the thread. And I wasn't mocking Mary, I was mocking the fact that someone would actually pray to her, which I find very strange.
Gaz,
I don't pray to Mary nor do I engage in vicarious baptism. Have you
ever once seen me mock your religious practices? I might be very straightfoward on certain things, but mocking? No. Jokes about it? No.
The simple fact is, Gaz, that it's never appropriate to mock the sacred beliefs of another religous person. I have sat through many a Mass in my life, attended a Hindu funeral service and attended services in other denominations including LDS services and while I might have found certain things unusual to me, I have always been respectful in the house of worship of others.
Additionally, Gaz, I want you to know that my own investigation of Mormonism started when a child felt insulted in my own church and following that, what I felt were extremely rude, mocking and ignorant comments on the part of a pastor regarding "holy underwear" and "eternal incubators", and while I don't expect you to be inspired to investigate Catholicsm as I have Mormonism, were it not for the fact that I found those comments reprehensible, I wouldn't be typing to you right now.
Of course, you might have wished that we had never crossed paths to begin with, but I don't feel that way at all. You know, no matter what or who God is, we are all flying through space clinging to this rolling ball of a planet and I don't think it wise for us to mock the earnest beliefs of those with whom we are destined to share the ride.
