Jumping off a cliff into a lake without checking how deep the water is would be an extremely stupid thing to do.

presumably, you know it's deep enough because you have witnessed others jump before. Even after you watch someone jump before you, it still requires committed resolve.

Part of the appeal of cliff jumping is getting to where you know it's ok to do it, but know others are scared of doing it.

We go up to a place called fossil creek every so often. It's a cool, out of the way place to walk and enjoy natural falls and moving water in Arizona. This waterfall (falls) is a popular place for jumping. The first few times, it gets to you. But after a while, it's no big deal.

Last time we were there, there was a couple who would swan dive into the pool. Only a few other people were willing to try that. I wasn't one.

There is also a hot springs near by where the nudists like to go. I've not done the nude hot springs thing yet either. It's always interesting to be hiking in the area and have the nude hikers go by. I'm more scared of cacti in the privates than I am of diving head first off the cliff, frankly.
The world is always full of the sound of waves..but who knows the heart of the sea, a hundred feet down? Who knows it's depth?
