Does Bednar ever smile?
The genealogy has been done already, All the documents that have survived have already been entered into their huge database. If he wants to make a big deal out of the kids going down to temple square and typing their name in (which will only take a mere 20secs) he's the one making an Idiot of himself.

Such a different strategy than the end-is-near approach that was shoveled at the LDS faithful prior to my apostasy in 1985. There was often mention of the five wise bridesmaids that took their lamps and oil to meet the bridegroom, and the five foolish ones that took their lamps but no oil for them. Matthew 25:1-13. (Of course, my take away from that parable was why were the five that had oil for their lamps so selfish and unwilling to share with the other five?)
Now, Packer tells us there's at least two more generations before the dreadful day of judgment. Well, then there's plenty of time for those that belief in such a judgment day to yet eat, drink and be merry, for tomorrow--scratch that--for in 30 or 40 years you will die. So plenty of time to live it up, and then repent before that dreaded judgment day.
Just think of how old and likely outdated City Creek Mall will be by then?

This was cute, coming from a nuclear physicist:
"Memorizing a scripture is like forging a new friendship."
O.K. Whatever. Perhaps that was just too deep a thought for me after a couple doppelbocks.
Wow, if that's what a Mormon GA considers to be friends, he really does need to get out more.

That doesn't make any sense though, What If your patriarchal blessing says in plain English that you are going to witness the second coming of Jesus Christ before you die?
Are the apostles going to disband the church and split the wealth 15 ways?

They already did. You just missed the memo... I mean, the annual financial report.
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.
I thought Anderson gave a very clear summation of the Church's position on having children. In short he stated that the Church believes: 1. Having children is the purpose of being on Earth 2. Is what we were created to do 3. You should be married before having children 4. You should go about this duty early 5. Financial restrictions should not hold you back
He added some very clear caveats to these statements: 1. It is up to individual couples to decide when to have children and how many to have, but that they should consult with the Lord about it. 2. Those couples and individuals who, for whatever reason, cannot have children in this life will get the chance to do so in the next.
I thought it was one of the clearest statements on a sensitive topic of debate and discussion within the religion. People may not like or agree with it, but we cannot say we don't know what the Church's position is.
I thought it was a good talk.

Morality is doing what is right, regardless of what you are told. Religion is doing what you are told, regardless of what is right.

Smart move! He's made a true prophecy and will go into the prophecy hall of fame for it.

There are very few EVies who would state so categorically when Christ will return. Those that do are resoundly criticized for making this claim when The Bible makes it clear that no one knows.
