When I stopped believing, did God force another veil of forgetfulness over my mind, distorting my memory and understanding of Mormon teachings--and doing it in the same way with each and every other apostate that posts here at MDB?
I don't recall a thread devoted to this topic, so I am starting one.
Timely thread. Just this past weekend, my TBM Nephite brother-in-law used this exact nonsense against my wife. He told her that he has "studied Mormonism deeply, no, *really* deeply" and that my wife clearly doesn't have an understanding of the teachings of the church.
This despite the fact that my wife:
1. Grew up in the exact same house as my brother-in-law did - you know, the typical Mormon upbringing of church every week, early morning seminary, food storage, scripture study, FHE, prayer, etc.
2. Was sealed in the temple, exactly like my brother-in-law (like my wife, my RM BIL also had some pre-marital fun, so the temple was delayed a year)
3. Was TBM right up until a year ago
Now, *unlike* my BIL, my wife has:
1. Taught early morning seminary
2. Taught Gospel Doctrine for 4 years
3. Taught Relief Society for 5 years
4. Taught Young Women's for god knows how long
My BIL, on the other hand, has taught YM, been a ward mission leader, and served in a bishopric. Hasn't taught a damn thing beyond his mission.
And yet, somehow now that my wife has left the church, not only does BIL know more than her, not only did she never understand the teachings of the church, but apparently BIL has full responsibility and authority to tell her such.
