Zing!

It was not intended to be a zinger so much as a criticism of your implicit 'othering' of those who believe such things. It strikes me as condescending.

This is quite a dishonest attempt to gain some rhetorical footing. You certainly have no problems whatsoever speaking condescendingly about Mormons and apologists as the uninformed and naïve "other."

maklelan wrote:So you think non-Mormons who ridicule Mormon garments as "Magic Underwear" do so because they have determined that LDS garments conflict with unnamed ancient purity laws, and thus produce the opposite of the intended effect? I suppose that's one theory. I think it's far more likely that the people who are the most vocal about LDS garments are (1) generally looking for something to bitch about, and (2) are amused by Latter-day Saints who actually attribute supernatural powers to their garments.

They ridicule because it's just fuckin' weird. Do you need anymore reason than that? Who makes underwear holy? How about holy toilet paper?

"Brother Hades, do you always use the prescribed holy toilet paper to clean yourself after doing your business?"

Is that any weirder than holy underwear?

Why would believing in JSJr's supernatural claims be any more defensible than believing in garments having supernatural properties?

Get off your high horse, jackass. Of course you think you're too sophisticated to believe that stuff. It is obvious in the tone of what you wrote. You should just own it instead of throwing a hissy fit.

Would it be possible to run a thread here titled, "Why everyone thinks Hanes underwear is AWESOME!"?

I personally don't find garments all that weird, or the fact that people believe they have miraculous properties. There's tons of strange things going on in the world. This is nowhere close to being the strangest.

You bring up a good point. I guess you can get people to believe damn near anything. I wonder what that says about human nature?
