You are right that the aliens do have this technology, that's how they are able to grade based on what would have happened without your intervention. But they are "chaotic neutral" perhaps, and uninterested in using their knowledge to better humans, they are only interested in playing a role for my hypothetical scenario. Without them, people can't really put confidence in their ideas about how the world should change.
