It's the fact that he put "real" in scare quotes that made this my nominee for post of the year.

Exactly. And he's been schooled in what these kind of misuses of punctuation mean, to boot. His answer, If I recall correctly, was that he was using them differently and so THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX, LIARS!!!

The name calling, the abject ignorance, the near illiteracy....I lost interest long ago...

Buzz wrong.....

You were actually "schooled" that the FULL TRUTH and FACT is that it's a common and accepted practice, which is ALSO in the definition of how to use quotes, that they can also be used for "emphasis", not simply as sarcasm.

When are anti-mormons and liberals going to start learning to tell the entire truth?

Aye, aye, aye, you do make it up as you go along. Quotes used when not quoting indicate the term is being used in a non-standard way.

For example, "immaculate conception" perhaps meaning the virgin birth as opposed to the accepted definition of Mary being free of Original Sin.

For emphasis, one uses italics, underlining or bold.

Now, in what sense are you real? And who are you, really?

Be careful not to use quotation marks in an attempt to emphasize a word (the kind of thing you see in grocery store windows—Big "Sale" Today!). Underline or italicize that word instead. (The quotation marks will suggest to some people that you are using that word in a special or peculiar way and that you really mean something else—or that your sale is entirely bogus.)

Glad you're getting a good guffaw out of it, lulu. I've only got 30+ years as a college English professor, not to mention working in several capacities as a professional writer and editor.

In other words, I'm a "liar."

Edited to add: Oh noes, looks like Darth is "lying" too!

It was right around the time I realized the Book of Mormon is 19th-century fiction that I adopted my firm belief that the government needs to raise taxes in order to pay for free pornography to be handed out at government-funded abortion clinics.

And that scholarship and evidences have well over tripled in just the last 20 years. Even back then, when I actually really studied, I thought to myself how amazingly so much evidences there were, and how no REAL "objective" person could deny the truth of it all.

Actually the opposite is true. More and more objective evidence is coming forth to disprove Mormonism like DNA, Book of Abraham, etc.
