What? It's not FOI-yur?

I admit ignorance on this...

But I looked it up.

Huh...

This is literally the coolest thing I've learned all day.

Seriously, you guys have been saying foi-yer? I've never said foi-yer. It's foi-yay. Pronounced en francais. Sisal-covered and all.

Yes for some reason this unholy and impure practice didn't penetrate into Canada. I received the correct pronunciation from my wife, who is from BC.

The name of the "king" in Facsimile No. 3 of the Book of Abraham is Isis. Yes...that is her name.

We also say "the D.I." instead of "D.I."

Like "the Facebook?" That is acceptable.

just me wrote:Here is another Mormon word thing that I didn't know about until a never-mo pointed it out.

Activity.

Everything is an activity! We don't have events, seminars, dinners, outings or whatever. We have activities.

(I actually had to ask my friend what they call it when they do something as a family. LMAO)

It can become worse after it is translated.

You can find it in an English-Hungarian dictionary: activity = aktivitás
The only problem is that "aktivitás" is only the state of being active

For a specified pursuit in which a person partakes (events, seminars, dinners, outings) we have different words, which can be translated to E. as simply "pursuit".

When I mentioned it to a very agile (and committed...) acquaintance of my wife, she said me "as a nonmormon, you can not understand it". Period. I was buried. I can say anything, it doesn't count, I am a nonmormon.
After all, she was courteous, didn't use the "anti" prefix.

just me wrote:lulu, thanks for the comparison! I think most LDS are ignorant of what other religions do, so it was very insightful to me.

Glad it was useful. I was afraid I had gone overboard.

But I guess "talk" is easier than saying "I shall expound scripture, exhort and testify next Sunday." Now that does sound pompous if not scholastic.
