You may be right. You would think most Mormons would want these guys to stop embarrassing the church. I enjoy watching them do it. Makes my mission to warn off investigators that much easier.

Anti Mormonism, your brand, actually seems to drive at least half the convert baptisms in our Stake (approx 50 per year). What usually happens is they become curious because of the outrageous or outlandish claims (yellow journalism) you guys make. Upon further study, they see the falsehood and irrational hate of anti Mormonism and settle down to trying the Church on it's merits and by personal revelation.

Why are so many people either leaving the Church or not joining in the first place?

You must be a Democrat.
Life long. Did some campaigning for Harry Reid against Sharron Angle, bcspace's type of Republican. Now that was an interesting lady. I just loved it when she'd speak. She'd blow up her own campaign. Reminds me of someone on this forum in fact.

If bcspace's experience is the norm, they must be attracting right-wing nuts, racists, and the terminally pretentious. 50 baptisms a year of such people is fine with me, whereas most people will look at what the "defenders" are peddling and rightly turn away. Imagine if the church ended up being totally made up of people like bcspace and Droopy. The way they're going, that day isn't far off.

In truth, most Mormons you know and most Mormons generally would be far more sickened by the behavior and hostility by non-believing LDS, ex-LDS, and non-LDS posters here than they would be by most apologists, of course. If what you say really means something to you, then I'd think you'd be more opposed to the actions and words found here than you are by random apologists who seem to come off a bit harsh from time to time.

yeah yeah...we got our doozies, but come on! They pail in comparison generally.

It is guys like Bcspace and Droopy that allowed me to examine my testimony in the Mormon church. I can't say, "thank-you" to them, because they were just the catalist for me to decide to dig deeper at the truths I had been taught for 40 years. For me, it was an attempt to reconcile how the church can be the so called true church, yet have these parasitic apologists telling people to not let the door hit them on the ass on their way out of the church.

I think it is the arrogance and lack of humility, or maybe empathy that really kills me. But that is OK.

I am now on the outside looking in and could never have asked for a better experience. It has been tough at times, but I am in the process of leaving along with my spouse of 18 years and our 6 children. Incidentally, contrary to what these holier than thou brethren will say, I have no desire to sin and I held many leadership positions within my ward.

I was always good and putting my personal anachronisms on the shelf. Now I do not know why anyone would want to be a part of it and only hope that apologists like this will continue their diatribe as it does not build "God's Kingdom" on the earth. But instead, has the opposite effect.

Edit: Oh yeah, forgot to give props to Stemelbow. He would be so hurt if he couldn't be included with old Droopy

Yeah, "You guy are worse" is a great response. If I were justifying racism and bigotry, I might agree with you. I'm not.

I am going to call total BS on any stake in the US having 50 convert baptisms per year. I have not seen 50 convert baptisms in my lifetime including a two year mission.
It is my province to teach to the Church what the doctrine is. It is your province to echo what I say or to remain silent.
