I can't help getting the disheartening and growing feeling that for hard right, conservative Trumpist types, their interpretation of the 2nd Amendment is gradually devolving into the idea that it somehow gives them the right shoot or threaten to shoot anyone with whom they have a political disagreement, or to attempt violent overthrow of election results they don't like, regardless of clear desires of the majority of the electorate.

No precept or claim is more suspect or more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.

Gun owners love to imagine these dirty harry type scenarios that aren't likely to ever happen anywhere outside of Hollywood.
You go all squinty-eyed and say, "I can't remember whether I put bullets or acorns in this gun. So you have to ask yourself, do I feel like a lucky squirrel. Well, do ya punk?"

In the department of "I kid you not." Several years ago, I met a nice couple who were boardgames. They invited me to their house and we played something. After that, we got together about one evening a month.

One evening they were talking about this squirrel who was wreaking havoc in their garden. Suddenly the husband said "there he is." Then he went into the kitchen, grabbed a handgun off the top of the fridge, and shot the squirrel. This was in a residential subdivision where the back yards butted up against undeveloped woods.

It caught me off guard, but I did my best to take it in stride, as if that's what I did with squirrels in my backyard. But the wife was clearly embarrassed. And I never heard from them again.

I ran into them in the grocery store a year or so later. We chatted, but it sounded like they weren't board gaming any more.

Maybe it was a rabbit. Stupid brain.

Meanwhile, this is what keeps the squirrels off our bird feeders. They are smart, and remember. A couple of nerfs sent their way, and whether I connect or not it’s at least three days before they try again. Using a gun?!! I can’t even imagine.

The folks in my gardener's group deal with squirrels in their garden by giving them their own feeding station away from their gardens. Not joking. It seems to work!

 I love that! I showed it to my daughter, who is an avid birdwatcher, and she loved it too! She maintains a number of hummingbird feeders and regular bird feeders in both front and back yards of our house, and regularly participates as a volunteer in official local bird population surveys.

It's too bad, though, that would be burglars and robbers are not as easily deterred. :(

What is the probability of that scenario?

The fact is gun owners are just as likely to have their own guns used against them during home invasions. Why? Because most people invading homes plan out their crime and it hardly ever involves "kicking open a door."

Getting rid of all guns isn't a viable option because there are simply too many of them. If this were two centuries ago we could have nipped this in the butt by banning guns and hundreds of thousands of Americans wouldn't have been killed over that span of time. At this point, the best route to go is to legislate gun control measures that make it more difficult for likely criminals to get their hands on them. But yes, I agree. guns are stupid. But we're a stupid country filled with emasculated weenies who think their AR15 is an extension of their penis.
If you can, listen to this. It's a story of two Intruders breaking into a house and holding a mother at gun point and the son shooting the Intruders, saving his mom's life. Was the son wrong to shoot the Intruders?

No, but for every one story you can find there are hundreds where something went wrong and the gun owner shot themselves, their kids, other innocent people, etc.

Are you pro life?

I'm pro life. Let me explain:

I would like to remove things that serve no other purpose than to kill living things: guns.
I would like to mandate things that save lives: COVID-19 vaccines.
