That's part of it. Russia at all times is working on people they think they can turn into assets. Assets are different then agents in that they don't necessarily know they are working for the Russians or are being manipulated. I wouldn't be surprised if the Russians worked on getting Trump to run knowing how incompetent he is and how to manipulate him, and may have been manipulating how he thinks on certain issues years before he became president. The question is what do they want. It's not anything for America's benefit. Putin's goals are things like end to sanctions on Russia, destruction of NATO, weakening of relationships with Europe and other allies, and the end of democracy in the US and world. Interesting that Trump has promoted each and everyone I listed.

1. History disagrees with you assessment of Hitler. In fact his military tenure in the 2nd world war was somewhat significant as that was no easy win for the allies and arguably the result pivoted in their favor only after the success of d-day which was a cast of many. But it seems odd to attempt to "broad stroke" ww2, but your goal likely requires a cursory and presumptuous view of that whole affair. But the sophomoric trigger pull of "Hitler!" is often the refuge of those suffering from information impotence.Dantana wrote: ↑Sun Aug 30, 2020 3:48 amWell, it's certainly possible that the "allies did not seek to assassinate Hitler" is just lore, but I don't think there is any question that his military strategy skills were sub-par. I just used it as it was a good lead in to my post theme. Anyway, what's your thoughts on why Russia prefers Trump?
..
2. While my search has not been exhaustive, I find no evidence, nor have I yet to find a reasonable argument, that Russia prefers Trump. And actually, the sanctions and foreign policy implemented in recent years against Russia might argue more for a "Russia prefers not-Trump" position.

Apparently you don't read much. There has been plenty of evidence and the senate intelligence committee run by republicans have said so. When it comes to sanctions on Russia, Trump has on many occasion wanted them removed.subgenius wrote: ↑Sun Aug 30, 2020 5:11 pm

1. How does it work when Trump imposes sanctions while also wanting them removed? Please, provide some source material.Themis wrote: ↑Sun Aug 30, 2020 6:42 pmApparently you don't read much. For example, your article is about easing sanctions on one oligarch, when say just on one date Trump levied sanctions on 6 individuals and 8 entities...should we go over the other 51 policy actions against Russia? or are you content with pretending that you achieved something here?
And notwithstanding the desperation of posting a wikipedia article to support your claim (yeah, i know its the level you guys speak at) but the actual takeaway/conclusion from your citation is that the goal was actually "increasing political and social discord in the United States."

RUSSIA – We assess that Russia is using a range of measures to primarily denigrate former Vice President Biden and what it sees as an anti-Russia “establishment.” This is consistent with Moscow’s public criticism of him when he was Vice President for his role in the Obama Administration’s policies on Ukraine and its support for the anti-Putin opposition inside Russia. For example, pro-Russia Ukrainian parliamentarian Andriy Derkach is spreading claims about corruption – including through publicizing leaked phone calls – to undermine former Vice President Biden’s candidacy and the Democratic Party. Some Kremlin-linked actors are also seeking to boost President Trump’s candidacy on social media and Russian television.
