It's interesting that the holy spirit is so helpless against the rumors and opinions of men.

Beat me to it.......typical, yer fast on the draw with something so blatantly obvious to the world and oblivious to Mormon insiders (TBM's). The Holy Ghost is far too much of a frickin pansy to be effective, based on the caricatures of the leaders on how "sensitive" it (He? She?) is to even the most miniscule negative influence, of any kind whatsoever, it high tails it off to the hills of Virginia faster than the speed of light. Why I dunno, perhaps it has the morbid fear of being contaminated?

After I came back to work I was asked about how the wedding went, how the "church" was decorated, what the bride wore, what the ceremony was like, etc. My colleagues were flabbergasted to learn that I was not at the ceremony, and so had little to report. They were absolutely astounded when I told them why: basically, I'm not considered worthy to be inside the building where the wedding took place because I'm an unbeliever who drinks coffee and doesn't give 10% of my income to the church, and so I waited outside.

If someone told me a similar story about an Evangelical sect or what have you, I would’ve thought everyone involved who was a member of that sect was a piece of garbage. Just total pieces of ****.

So. That’s what people think of Mormons. No amount of yellow t-shirts or commercials will change that until Mormons themselves stop being pieces of ****.

When my child got married 15 years ago, I took time off work to travel to the state where the ceremony was taking place. Of course, my colleagues sent congratulations etc.

[I'm blushing a little, thinking about what one lady said about me with respect to being considered "unworthy" - to the effect of how could that possibly be said about such a nice kind guy as malkie, and speculating on what those judging me must have stuck up certain parts of their anatomy. OK, I exaggerated that last detail, but it is generally representative of things that were said.]

I had simply told the truth, and although I was still hurt from the experience, I tried not to have my colleagues think badly of the rest of my family who were in the temple for the ceremony.

Suffice it to say that the image of the Mormon church took a bit of a knock that day.

That's a fine illustration, malkie. It's no wonder why people get bad impressions. It's well-deserved for things like this. You can't be faulted for what happened.

Being investigate by the SEC isn't a great look for a church with hundreds of billions of dollars of donations hoarded a way for a rainy day that isn't - wars, famines, pandemics, poverty, homelessness, a lack of water, natural disasters...etc etc etc. Has the Church ever articulated just what it believes would constitute a "rainy day" such that the hoarded cash reserves would need dipping into?
