What would you do if you found patterns that resemble a build on a core? Like Cor, Corom, Corihor, Coriantum, and Coriantumr.

Possible hypothesis: The Cor- names are successive builds of the same underlying narrative identity, with additional syllables reflecting later stages of composition or later stages in Joseph Smith’s evolving identity as he assumed greater authority.

Wouldn’t it be fun to trace the names as they build to see if there is a correlation?
Researches have been through this and as far as I know it's a dead end. The only possible connection to the Cori- prefix that could have been picked up by Joseph is found in Shakespeare wherein the protagonist Coriolanus (Roman general) is found well over a hundred times. This prefix is used in the names of several Book of Mormon characters:

Corianton
Coriantor
Coriantum
Coriantumr
Corihor
What I see is a lot of “Cor” in Ether, but only one “Cor” in Alma.

I don’t think of it as a plagiarism. It’s more like as Joseph learned, he adapted his persona, always in pursuit of authority.

The interesting part is that Corianton is rebuked for abandoning the ministry and his relationship with Isabel.

Yeah, he learned how to invent names as he went along and in the case of Cori he did so beginning with Alma's (Corianton) and packing more in Ether:

Corianto - n
Corianto - r
Coriant - um
Coriant - umr
Cori - hor

Let’s walk through chronologically.

In Ether, the “Cor-” names multiply and seem to build on one another. If “Cor-” represents a single person (Joseph) gaining experience and authority, it culminates in Coriantumr, a king.

But “Cor” loses everything. He goes to Zarahemla—the descendants of Mulek—the “true” inheritance. He is no longer king; his authority has effectively ended.

Then, in Alma, the lone “Cor-” character is Corianton. Instead of being a king, he is rebuked for abandoning the ministry and pursuing Isabel.

If the “Cor-” figures are symbolic, the trajectory appears to move from authority to correction and loss of authority.

Or rather it seems that Smith was inventing more names to keep things interesting.

Recall in Ether how there were two kings by the name of Com (Ether 1:13,27), one came early and another much later but the name remained the same.

You’re right — it could mean nothing and maybe I’m interpreting things that just aren’t there, but it us interesting to me that the cluster in Ether seems dwindle across the rest of the book, and it appears associated with authority.

Is there any parallel for such a developing naming convention in the Bible? Or is this use of the base "Cori..." unique to the Book of Mormon?

Corianton
Coriantor
Coriantum
Coriantumr
Corihor
Corom

There's also Korihor of course.

There are a few such clusters of names in the Book of Mormon:
Cori - Corianton, Coriantor, Coriantum, Coriantumr, Corihor.
Mor - Mormon, Moroni, Morianton, Moriancumer.
Neph - Nephi, Nephihah, Nephi, Nephites.
Am - Amaleki, Amalickiah, Amaron, Aminadab, Ammon, Ammoron.

The Bible also has clusters of names like that. For example: Elijah, Elisha, Elihu, Elimelech.

I think it would be interesting to pursue making a case for these naming clusters to be evidence that the Book of Mormon is legitimately ancient, has an apologist done such a study?
Premise 1. Eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable.
Premise 2. The best evidence for the Book of Mormon is eyewitness testimony.
Conclusion. Therefore, the best evidence for the Book of Mormon is notoriously unreliable.

"Cori" is very much a Book of Mormon invention. The only such rendering found for names in the Bible is Corinth & Corinthians.

Neph - Nephi, Nephihah, Nephi, Nephites.

Bible: Nepheg, Nephtoah, Nephusim, Nephish, Nephishesim, Nephthalim,

I've been down that gravel road before. It's a bit dusty and doesn't bear much fruit. I'm sure that many an apologist and scholar has played around with the names. Interpretation would be based on conjecture.

My point was that clusters of similar names appears in the Bible and appears to be a practice within dynasties in Hebrew society. Finding such a practice in the Book of Mormon could be Joseph mimicking the style of the Bible, but it could also be viewed as “a hit” in terms of historicity.

And if that be the case then you will have to go back to church (get re-dunked) and pay your tithes and keep all the rules of the club.

Think how horrible that would be!

Hell no, Mormonism sucks. And, Mormon Jesus sucks too.
