Bump. Cuz I think we're going to need this thread.

First topic: Russian Sanctions. Congress: Do it! President: Hell no! Assuming there were Republicans willing to face off against Trump, how exactly would this get resolved?

ETA: There's an excellent podcast titled "What Trump Can Teach Us About Con Law." https://trumpconlaw.com It's hosted by Roman Mars, of 99% Invisible. It's a fun and interesting look at the various issues that Trump's approach to the presidency raises.

Thanks for the link. Started listening to the Podcast about libel law. It's always interesting learning how concepts were developed and evolved.

Pennsylvania is in a full-blown Constitutional crisis at the state level driven by Republican unwillingness to scrap illegal gerrymandered maps. It's escalated from the legislature defying court order to the legislature starting to move to impeach the 5 out of 7 judges responsible for the gerrymandering ruling. Thanks to that gerrymandering, they have the votes to carry it out if they vote as a partisan bloc.

This story is as big of a deal as any that has come out in the past year short of the Russia investigation, in my opinion. The GOP is in the process of torching basic democratic norms in pursuit of power in one of the largest, most politically diverse states in the country. If this isn't a canary in the coal mine for what can happen nationally, I don't know what is.

The Supreme Court has refused to hear Pennsylvania's GOP appeal of the ruling.

The impeachment threats came after that ruling. In another little side-story, one of the two dissenting judges in the state Supreme Court was found to have received an undisclosed 25k donation from one of the named defendants in the state Senate. In case you needed any more evidence of how corrupt this is, there you go.

Haven't you heard?

It was a "Democratic-controlled court," which is the only reason this is happening.

We’re here. The Constitution gives the House the power to impeach. The executive branch refuses to recognize that power.

Welcome to your Constitutional Crisis.
