Re: Six Days in August D.O.A.?
Monday (Family Night) was another disappointing day at the box office for Six Days:
Monday
$3,869.00

The timing of the dismal box office numbers, coming off the heels of Witnesses, another critical and box office bomb, all but guarantees this will be viewed as an institutional and very public rebuke of the Afore and all his works. Frankly, I'm not surprised.
The Afore is cantankerous, dishonest, testy and rude (and these are his better qualities ). Afore can't see why everything he has been involved with has gone to crap. The Afore has done more to harm the reputation of Mormonism than any other man save Joseph Smith himself.

After 25 days 6DIA has grossed $250,000 less than Witnesses had grossed at the same point. 6DIA is tracking at 59% of Witnesses and that percentage is in a reducing trend as each day passes. It might end up grossing less than half of the Witnesses box office take.
Premise 1. Eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable.
Premise 2. The best evidence for the Book of Mormon is eyewitness testimony.
Conclusion. Therefore, the best evidence for the Book of Mormon is notoriously unreliable.

Dan has completely stopped talking about it on his blog.
I can’t imagine there will ever be another theatrical release from the Interpreter Foundation.
Unless John Pack Lambert ends up writing the script for free in the comment section of SeN.

You can sense the desperation behind all the self-deprecating remarks about how "interpreter is dying!!!" Interpreter has *never* done anything meaningful. It produces material regularly, but so does a human being on a high-fiber diet. The organization's lone "claim to fame" is its streak of posting material each week, which is to say that it's basically akin to those "X DAYS WITHOUT AN ACCIDENT" signs that you see in various workplaces. But it's a dumb streak: you could equally say that they've gone however many days/years in a row without ever managing to publish something meaningful. I mean, has a single one of their works ever been cited by a reputable non-LDS scholar?
Well, what you can you say? 6 Days in August is precisely the sort of thing you would expect from these folks.

Useful? The entertainment value maybe. This article provided many hours of entertainment.Doctor Scratch wrote: ↑Wed Nov 06, 2024 11:26 pmYou can sense the desperation behind all the self-deprecating remarks about how "interpreter is dying!!!" I wish they would produce one more film.
They could do one on Joseph Smith and the introduction of polygamy. They could call it "Joseph and the Flaming Sword." They should issue both PG and R rated versions to appeal to different audiences. I really think that it could be a money maker.

Another day, another percentage drop relative to Witnesses…it seems to be following a pattern where each day’s take is 50% of the same day the week before.I Have Questions wrote: ↑Wed Nov 06, 2024 8:17 amAfter 25 days 6DIA has grossed $250,000 less than Witnesses had grossed at the same point. 6DIA is tracking at 59% of Witnesses and that percentage is in a reducing trend as each day passes. The film is already dead. Keeping it in theatres at this point just seems cruel.

My nevermo wife met some missionaries in the Target parking lot. She asked if they had seen “Six Days in August.” They had no clue what she was talking about!
They did scold her for using the term Mormon though.

Re: Six Days in August D.O.A.?
Will this be the last weekend that "Six Days" is in theaters? It seems more or less definitive at this point that it will not wind up making back even 1/4 of its production budget, which means that it is quite a "box office bomb" indeed.
Meanwhile, it looks like another Mormon-themed movie, the Hugh Grant vehicle Heretic, is getting absolutely stellar reviews at Rotten Tomatoes, with a staggering Tomatometer of 93% based on *161* reviews! Wow! Will it blow 6 Days in August out of the water in terms of box office success, too? I can't help but wonder if all of the Afore's trash-talking about the film has come roundabout to bite him on the read-end yet again: another case of "karmic justice." Hugh Grant, I notice, is being especially singled out by critics for his excellent performance. Maybe if Interpreter had recruited *him* to play BY, things might have gone better?
