Sure, he starts by telling something that is LDS and does happen in the LDS church but then distorts it. Things like 8 year old children are asked if they masturbate, tithing is on GROSS including food stamps, Medicare and money you even find on the ground, the Church teaches garments have magical powers, etc, etc,

Really pertty much distortions and trash.

What church are you in? j/k

Me? I still am a participating LDS.

Wait...I'm not trying to pry...just want to clarify...You were baptized at 8, and your bishop, in a baptismal interview with you asked you about sexuality? Is that what happened?

If that's the case, this bishop should be throttled! I am SO SORRY that happened to you!

That is a form of abuse, and completely inappropriate.

*cyber hugs*

I must say I find it hard to believe any bishop would ask what merc said when someone is 8. Sorry but I just cannot swallow this one. But if he did I would have no problem thrashing him.

Perhaps Merc did indeed have a pet monkey who was naughty and deserved to be spanked.

Huh?

;P

I think the only thing naughty about here is a penguin!

Some of the die-hard fundie Mormons insist that it should be paid on gross...but as far as I am aware, there is nothing in the Handbook of Instructions which states which way tithing needs to be paid. Maybe Rollo can shed some light on this one. He has a copy of it.

The Handbook defines "tithing" this way (quoting the First Presidency):

"The simplest statement we know of is the statement of the Lord himself, namely, that the members of the Church should pay one-tenth of all their interest annually, which is understood to mean income. No one is justified in making any other statement than this."

No mention of gross or net income -- it's left up to the individual member, although gross income is certainly implied and encouraged, in my opinion. But based on the above definition, one could certainly calculate tithing on net income and be considered a full tithe-payer.
"Moving beyond apologist persuasion, LDS polemicists furiously (and often fraudulently) attack any non-traditional view of Mormonism. They don't mince words -- they mince the truth."

-- Mike Quinn, writing of the FARMSboys, in "Early Mormonism and the Magic World View," p. x (Rev. ed. 1998)

onflicted and desperate for confirmation Nehor, that's how I see you. But don't worry, that's common among your breed.

If I was desperate for confirmation I wouldn't be here.

Back off, pal. All you're showing right now is what a jerk you can be.

Agreed!

How can you be that callous, Nehor?

No 8 year old should be questioned about such things. No wonder Merc has bitter feelings regarding the Church.

Merc has bitter feelings about the Church because I'm callous? Wow. If callousness is a side-effect of being a member of the Church then it seems Merc never really left.

I can be a jerk. Most everyone here can.

WTF!!!???

First of all, Merc's bitter feelings about the Church don't stem from YOUR callousness. Do you have RDD (Reading Deficit Disorder) too?

It is beyond me how someone who is normally very caring can completely disregard someone's emotional pain which partially stemmed from child abuse.

Not that you probably care, but I have lost a lot of respect for you.

You are possibly here because you wish to live a vicarious exmo life.
