It doesn't pretend to identify them. It just notes that others preceded the Nephites with domesticated animals.
The subject of "Others" is fascinating in light of certain promises made in the Book of Mormon regarding the Promised Land (TM):
2 Nephi 1
9. Wherefore, I, Lehi, have obtained a promise, that inasmuch as those whom the Lord God shall bring out of the land of Jerusalem shall keep his commandments, they shall prosper upon the face of this land; and they shall be kept from all other nations, that they may possess this land unto themselves. And if it so be that they shall keep his commandments they shall be blessed upon the face of this land, and there shall be none to molest them, nor to take away the land of their inheritance; and they shall dwell safely forever.
10. But behold, when the time cometh that they shall dwindle in unbelief, after they have received so great blessings from the hand of the Lord -- having a knowledge of the creation of the earth, and all men, knowing the great and marvelous works of the Lord from the creation of the world; having power given them to do all things by faith; having all the commandments from the beginning, and having been brought by his infinite goodness into this precious land of promise -- behold, I say, if the day shall come that they will reject the Holy One of Israel, the true Messiah, their Redeemer and their God, behold, the judgments of him that is just shall rest upon them.
11. Yea, he will bring other nations unto them, and he will give unto them power, and he will take away from them the lands of their possessions, and he will cause them to be scattered and smitten.
Then, they show up in the "Promised Land", and there are already multitudes of pagan cultures?

That same promise was made to Abraham. Neither he nor his descendants ever prevailed over all others. Abraham's promise was even stronger; he was promised he would prevail. There is no mention of prevailing or otherwise given to Nephi.
If the land was already full of 'dark skinned natives' why would God punish the wayward Nephite kids by making them look like the neighbors?
The Prophets, as we have been taught for over 150 years have stated the Americas were populated by Lamanites who are descendants of the Jewish folk who came here. The Book of Mormon people.
Are all those LDS leaders liars? Are they too dumb to realize the truth? What is reality here?
That one can't understand the difference in 'principal' and 'among' the ancestors of the current Native American population leads me to think you attended school in Utah. Quite a difference in meaning and it does matter to some of us. We don't enjoy being lied to. The more things move forward the more I start believing Mark Hoffman is as inspired as Joseph Smith and his successors.
Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. That way when you do criticize them you'll be a mile away and you'll have their shoes.

Sir,
Just to clarify a bit so I do not misunderstand you.
You said, "The Book of Mormon does not discuss intermarrige with indigenous persons, but it does discuss encountering them." Then you said, "It doesn't pretend to identify them. It just notes that others preceded the Nephites with domesticated animals."
Would you be good enough to provide the reference because your point is a little obscure. If I am not mistaken, the extent to which you say the Book of Mormon discusses non-Middle Eastern immigrant indigenous populations is a reference to "others preceded the Nephites with domesticated animals."? Or are you referencing the Jaredites and Mulekites?

CFR that God told Abraham that "none would molest" his descendants in the Promised Land v.1.
If I remember correctly, the Bible is very clear about the condition of the Promised Land when Abraham's descendants showed up, and the steps that God commanded them to take to inherit it. And conversion and intermarriage weren't on the agenda.
