Yeah, that was probably too much. But you know what I mean.

Regardless, I see no harm in inquiring into Welch's role in Mopologetics. Perhaps he is the milquetoast workaholic that your sister described. Then again, maybe there is a deeper and more complex side to his personality. As of right now, my impression is simply that Welch wields an enormous amount of power and influence within apologetic circles, and I have a hard time seeing how that (i.e., my impression) is in any way a bad thing.

I have no problem with inquiring into his role. I'm not really interested in that role. I'm just saying I have a hard time making judgments about people I don't know based on the impressions of one person. I would hope people wouldn't do that to me, either.

Well, thank god the widow's mite is paying for people to take cruises and whatnot. Next thing you know the Mopologists will be yammering on about making a living by the temple and getting themselves a jerry curl.

God only knows that He desperately wants his preachers to take cruises.

Crazy.

Tithes aren't paying for the cruises. Cruise lines are. Unless you think the church owns a cruise line company and it's supported by tithes?

I was going to say, this is just Welch moonlighting. In other words, he'll be working during the cruise, so it's hardly a "free cruise," and it certainly doesn't come out of tithing.

What is the big deal about this?

Ok. Just like tithes aren't paying for a multi-billion dollar mall in downtown SLC.

No, tithes are definitely paying for City Creek.

But the cruise thing is just some guys moonlighting. BYU doesn't support them on their cruise thing.

That makes no sense. The guy is moonlighting for another company, Cruise Lady, which is not owned by the church, but is owned by Diane and Larry Larsen. What does that have to do with the money the church is spending on the mall project? The Larsens are just some of the multitudes of business owners who target an LDS audience. That does not mean they are "the church."
