I don't' know if you all caught it but Buffalo implied pornography is talked about in every priesthood talk. I don't think seeing that it is mentioned 186 times in General Conference, which includes priesthood session, quite qualifies for what Buffalo was describing. I don't see how mere mentions of it is somehow obsessing over it either. But whatever. As i said, i don't really pay much attention to it. It seems people here discuss it as much if not more than they do in GC--afterall many of those references were from 40 years ago and such.

Anyway, thanks for the discussion, as I said, overall, this topic doesn't interest me too much. I just found Buffalo's characterizations overstated at the very least.

Do you have a quote where buffalo implies that porn is talked about in every talk in priesthood session.

I would say I would here talks or discussion about porn with the church it least once a month. I didn't mean just a brief mention. You don't thinking that is harping on about it?

Maybe we talk about it here to deal with the abuse the church gave some of us over this. It helps the recovery process when leaving the church.

No Stem, you misunderstood. I said you hear about in pretty much every special priesthood meeting. That doesn't mean every talk. That doesn't mean every Sunday in Elders Quorum.

Well I see I did errr on this. Buffalo did challenge me to find any special priesthood meeting in which the topic isn't harped on. I queried further to know what was meant by harping on it, because surely mentioning the topic isn't harping on it, no? He then said, "By harp on porno I mean obsessively talk about what a menace it is." But what does that mean? "Bring it up frequently, shame those who do it, scare people about supposed consequences (not backed up by any data), etc." Which I don't really know what is meant here either. Oh well. What's more to say? I think its unhealthily brought up here as something to discuss concerning Mormonism, but with that we're left in the same boat. Afterall, as of these past few months, by far, the topic has been raised here far more than all the church meetings, including Conference, I've participated in.

I'm out.

Most the time this subject is brought up here is because someone was talking about it at church or the church made some recent video about it or the church made some recent website about it or church members made a website about it. Really the main reason it is brought up here is because the church or the church members have been discussing it.

I didn't think you could find that quote because I would have gotten after Buffalo for say something that is not true.

Did I say I am out? Well, I do that sometimes.

Anyway, if you really do think that LDS obsessively talk about it because the topic has been mentioned, then I suppose you do think Buffalo's comment was accurate. I don't see how mentioning the topic constitutes any sort of obsession, but I do agree that LDS, along with many religionists think the subject matter a terrible thing and is one worth fighting against.

If a talk is given about Jesus Christ you wouldn't say he was just mentioned. You would say he was focused on. Porn is more than mentioned. It is a main focus of the church today.
Just because you do not like the negative connotation of some of the words people choose to use doesn't mean they are wrong with their assessment.

No problem dude it's nice to get the last word in. That's why threads can go on forever.

I would say LDS harp on it way more than other churches and religions. Although, I don't go to other churches so I wouldn't know but this is just a guess.

Hoops and Aristotle, does your church have talks about porn once a month?

I think you'll find we bring up just about every topic you can think of more frequently than the once a week Church meetings you attend.
