It's just as well that they closed that thread, because I wasn't all that interested in carrying on a protracted argument with Scott about it.
Is it just me, or did some Sethbag haters crawl out of the woodwork since I posted there again? I mean first Kemara, which is pretty much par for the course, but then Scott Lloyd's seeming hostility was unexpected. I'm wondering if these guys actually remember me posting there several years ago, and when I showed up, they were like "Oh wow, it's Sethbag, GET HIM!", or if they are more familiar with MDB posters than they let on, and when one of them (it almost wouldn't matter who) showed up on MD&D they saw it as their chance to get back a little?
Whatever the reason, it was kind of surprising to me.
By the way, the brief interaction I had with Dan wasn't me setting up a specific lunch date or anything. I have previously mentioned that I intended to look him up when I get a chance, and he'd previously mentioned that I would be welcome to do so, and we'd go eat lunch or something. This was just a little reminder that I hadn't forgotten, and still looked forward to doing that at some point. I haven't been up to Utah in several years, and my family are wishing I would go visit them, and I think it's inevitable that I will do that fairly soonish, and I'm hoping I can have a chance to go down to the Y and meet Daniel. That's really it.
Anyhow, DCP and I didn't exchange any PMs or anything, on either board. The lunch thing, if it ever happens, isn't going to be an OK Corral showdown, or anything like that. In fact if it happens I'll probably deliberately not "return and report" about it, because I'll want the conversation to be natural, unscripted, and not guarded in the same way it might be if Daniel thought I was going to come back and report everything he said, like I was out to get him or something.
I really think Scott Lloyd's attention to it turned my brief interaction with DCP in that thread into something it wasn't, nor was ever intended to be.

Mormonism ceased being a compelling topic for me when I finally came to terms with its transformation from a personality cult into a combination of a real estate company, a SuperPac, and Westboro Baptist Church. - Kishkumen

Sethbag,
I'd sugguest, don't waste your time.
But I guess that would be based on your expectations of the conversation.

I have a feeling this is exactly what was going on.
