Ok, bcspace, are you free to think about whatever you want without jeopardizing your soul?

He will say "yes" without elaborating. Scientists have a fancy word for his condition - denial.

Now take away all those supported by taxes. Now take away those supported by just a few people. How many are left? Oh, and take away those that support abortion. An abortion is not an act of charity.

So how you doing? We should find some topic to beat to death.

Hey, I know!!

Let's do the same thing for religious charities! This could be fun.

Let's take away all those supported by taxes. Now take away those supported by just a few people(lol, we can do the "what does a few mean" tangent). How many are left? Oh, and take away those that support discrimination. Discrimination is not an act of charity.

And we can also take away those that use their charitable contributions to build huge extravagant buildings.

If that is indeed your feelings on the issue then why care at all about this life as well. Why care what we do each day of our life. For myself I do care about how I will feel about myself tomorrow. Have I set goals, have I finished projects, have I helped rather than hinder, and the like. We can build character in our self if we work at it today. No one who is respected or is seen as productive accomplished this by doing nothing. So I do care where I go. I don't see death as an end.

Why do you need a God for any of that? Without a God you no longer desire to be a productive member of society? What would you rather be doing if it weren't for that pesky God telling you what to do?
I'm the apostate your bishop warned you about.

Frank,

Is it possible for me to:

1. Care about life
2. Care about what I do every day
3. Care about how I will feel about myself
4. Help others/complete projects/set goals
5. Build character
6. Be respected

Without viewing death as a stepping stone to an eternal reward?

Why does it matter where we go after death?

Real estate.

You and I will be playing soccer on some dirty street with the sound of Arsenio Rodríguez echoing distantly off the apartment walls. Once in a while, we will look up the hill beyond Sunset Boulevard, to gaze at the mansion abodes of the folks who did it right.

That is a good point. Just because someone else does the heavy lifting in charity does not mean we get a free ride. How many of us stop when we see someone in need? I have many times but I know I could have done more. When our neighbor needs help do we help? I do but I know I could do more. It is what we do that matters.

I do more nice crap for people now that I am free of god - I have more time and money and no rules telling me that spending time with my ass in a chair for 3 hours is service.

Life is awesome.
