You really need to use a thread like this to take a swipe at the Church?
Scratch, well, you ought to remove your post above. Really?
I wasn't taking a swipe at the Church, I was simply reiterating what the Church says and teaches to people during times of grief. The Church message is that funerals are not to be a time of sadness, but a celebration of a persons life and the fact that they have moved on to the next part of the great Plan of Salvation.
In fact, the Church teaches that times of grief are a good opportunity for missionary work; Preach my Gospel encourages missionaries to seek out the recently bereaved as they are susceptible to the Gospel message. The Church also encourages members to utilise funerals as missionary opportunities.
If you feel the Church message is inappropriate, take it up with them.

Speaking of which, it dawned on me today that there may be a rather ugly reason why he began saying this....
I have to agree with Scratch on this.
You know, it makes me wonder if it was Scratch's brother that passed away what kind of snide remarks DCP would have made on FAIR.
PS. DCP should cut back on eating donuts. They clog your heart and cause heart attacks. Do it Dan! Eat right. You can go without coffee and wine. Can you give up donuts? If not, you'll be dead sooner than you prefer. Fat and sugar mixed together is deadly food.
Just saying.

I don't think that Dan would have taken any kind of swipe at Scratch about something like that.
By the same token, if this were a thread about Scratch's brother dying, would you be lecturing him about eating donuts?
Sorry, Paul, but that is just bad form.
The thread starter meant this as a sincere thread regarding condolences to Dan for his brother's loss....not yet another thread of one-upmanship.

Maybe it is bad form to some degree but it's damn good advice and if he takes it he will live healthier and longer. It's for his good. Really, I mean that. Eating too many donuts is a killer and since this thread is about death and dying I thought it appropriate to bring it up knowing he has a problem with donuts.
Don't you think that if his brother could reach out to him from beyond the grave he might encourage him to cut back on eating donuts because they really are unhealthy?
I doubt DCP is offended. He's way too thick skinned. And maybe he really will cut back on donuts. That would be a sign of strength on his part.

I actually started a thread a while back on how sugar is basically the Mormon drug of choice. Maybe I should resurface it, or start a new one? It actually is a good topic for discussion.

I saw it and skimmed it. You are very right. Sugar & fat mixed together are drugging Mormons to death. A great many LDS people are overweight and in poor health because they eat too much sugar and fat. It's sad to see a people that tout the WofW act so foolishly in their diets. I think also the prophets and their wives are addicted too.
Anyway, DCP could live a healthier life if he cut back on his drug use.
This is all an excellent example of why the Ex-Mormon community is a sad community. There is so much hate here laced with phony expressions of sympathy.
Sad... Truly sad.

This is one of the most rehensible things the church has done in recent years... and I think it's one of Packer's ideas, if I remember correctly. This is the main reason I hate Mormon funerals.

That's not an accurate retelling. Most won't go up the thread to see what took place, so I'll just recap for you. Buffalo asked why "now" hundreds of people knew about it. I answered him. It seems no condolences were offered here, until the email was posted. I certainly did not insinuate it was public knowledge because of that.
I showed this was untrue since Dan had written a tribute to his brother some weeks earlier.
You showed very little if anything in response to what took place. Sad you used this thread to promote this kind of stuff.
Love ya tons, Stem
I ain't nuttin'. don't get all worked up on account of me.
My deepest and most profound sympathies for the loss of your brother. I lost my younger brother about a month ago. It's akin to losing a limb or an organ.
I am deeply sorry for your loss. My thoughts are with you and your family as you navigate this difficult time in your lives.
