Well, I don't know. When we consider the problems that teenage girls are having these days with alcohol and drug addiction, maybe the advice on that site was not too far off.
Interesting to read just how to prevent the problem further down in the columbia university text
Read your link, no the LDS drivel is not related to the advice given in the Columbia paper. As a matter of fact telling girls that The Holy Spirit won't talk to them if they don't look good is the exact opposite of what Columbia addresses through out the paper.

Why do you even try?
From the Ernest L. Wilkinson Diaries: "ELW dreams he's spattered w/ grease. Hundreds steal his greasy pants."

The problem with you café is that you are obsessed with Mormons and Mormonism. It is quite interesting how you only see evil in Mormonism and with Mormons. Your posts on CAF are a case in point.
What is the reason for your obsession? You do realize that catholicism does not fair well either if we go back in time, right? Should we talk about catholic guilt? The crazy things nuns taught boys and girls back in the day?
And this advice was given to sister missionaries and not to the general LDS young women.

I intend to lay a foundation that will revolutionize the whole world. Joseph Smith We are “to feed the hungry, to clothe the naked, to provide for the widow, to dry up the tear of the orphan, to comfort the afflicted, whether in this church, or in any other, or in no church at all…” Joseph Smith

Well, I don't know. I find it childish posting a link from 1972. People need to get a life. Here is what I do know. Young women are doing fine in the LDS church. The advice they get is spot on. Much better than they get from magazines and television or peer pressure. And at the end, this is what is important.

But this is not back in the day this is the crap that the LDS church is feeding girls now and since it is on the LDS.org website it is fed to all LDS young women not just "sister missionaries". No catholic would tell girls that the Holy Spirit can't reach them if they don't look good, that is an utterly loathsome idea.
As to my posts on CAF there is nothing there that focuses on Mormonism being evil, most is addressed to posters who are being disingenuous, hypocritical or presenting outright lies. In other words people like you.

.
The Holy Ghost works only in a certain type of vessel. The Spirit may work through an individual who is pure in heart, but it works at its greatest strength through a person who is in all things pure and clean.
A sister missionary may be a wonderful person inside, but she must try to keep her physical appearance just as radiant; otherwise, the Holy Ghost cannot influence her in the fullest sense, and she will miss out on needed guidance and comfort.
I realize very well the obstacles faced. Many are the times when it seems absolutely impossible to maintain the proper standard of appearance.
In the mission field where I labored, we were normally interviewed by the president at conference time. In most cases, we traveled to the conference and did not do normal missionary work at this time. Thus, it was easier to make a presentable appearance, and, of course, [b]we always tried to look our very best.
This is talking about missionary work and looking presentable on your mission, dress properly and neat. Nothing at all wrong with that. And it does help. I was told at a very young age and not by a church member that it is good to look presentable when looking for a job. Was that terrible advice too. We are judged by our appearances in certain situations and missionary work is no different. Should nuns attend adoration in hot pants and tank tops? Do you think that the spirit of the moment would be influenced by it?
Also, the text was written by a 23 year old young lady giving advice to other potential missionaries. It is her opinion and she has a right to say it. I think that you need to see things in perspective café and get a life away from antimormonism.

Here is a challenge for you. Start a thread on CAF that stresses a positive in Mormonism and defend it. Let see if you can do it.

Of course RFM overlooks the fact that it was written by a 23 year old who just came off her mission. And these were her suggestions for future sister missionaries and for the time frame when the advice was written was very culturally centered. Maybe RFMers need to get a life.
