Enforcing the law against shoplifting certainly makes sense. Stopping or seriously reducing it is a boon to merchants a d customers. Doing so is a significant expense however. It needs more police, court time and jails. All this if increased means more tax to be paid.

I do not live in California so am not part of the decision on how much tax to pay.

Reliability of the sources? I am not sure. I am finding multiple accounts that this occurred - but it is hard to know. With Trump I don't see it as outside of the realm of possibility. There are decent reports that he wanted to nuke N Korea during his first term. I think the moron's grasp on what such an act would unleash is just not there.

One of the interesting things to me, regarding this, was how fast outrage spread, and Israel reacted to placate the American right-wing "Christians," and all of the pro-Israel politicians who raced to condemn it.

Meanwhile, when an IDF sniper murdered a mother and daughter leaving worship at the Holy Family Church, there were crickets. Similarly, when they destroyed that same church... nadda. When Israel destroyed the Church of Saint Porphyrius, the Byzantine Church of Jabalia, and the St. Hilarion Monastery, not a single peep was heard.

I guess Lebanese Christians have light enough skin to warrant a slightly different treatment than all of the Palestinian Christians who have been slaughtered, had their churches looted and destroyed, and had their statues and paintings of Christ go up in flames and end at the bottom of rubble.
