- Whenever a poet or preacher, chief or wizard spouts gibberish, the human race spends centuries deciphering the message. - Umberto Eco

I find this subject so danged sad, and I'm absolutely certain if one of the 15's son was gay, he'd either be hidden away, married off to some poor unsuspecting woman, or we'd see a change in the policy. Because that's all it is... a policy.

In my sister ward lives a gay man, with his wife and 9 children. Every day of his life, he is unacceptable to his family and his friends if he lives what he is. So he lives a lie. He has no choice. He was disciplined for his homosexuality once, and has since been rebaptised. He made a decision that the church is more important to him than being true to himself. I find it rehensible that the church requires that kind of intensely personal betrayal of a fine man with a good heart.

I have no specific information but I’ve heard this situation already exists, and if you think about it, it would not be at all surprising to find out one of the GA’s had a gay child (just as it was not surprising to find out about the Vice President’s daughter.)

Whatever the case, I think the paramount concern here re: the Church and its policy towards gays would be to first protect the authority and legitimacy of past and present GAs in the eyes of the members. Any allegiance to family would be secondary. In other words no big changes just because one of the GAs had a gay kid.

One of the "big 15" does have a gay son, and he is, more or less, "hidden away".

Why am I not surprised?
