Professor Hamblin and I both find anti-Semitism loathesome. And we both see some similarities between anti-Semitism and the worst kinds of anti-Mormonism.

I support pointing this out.

Incidentally, I assume (since RfM doesn't preserve most old posts) that the cited passage comes from one of the files you keep on your targets. Did you preserve his entire post, for context, or merely a passage that, stripped of its context, you believed you could use to defame Professor Hamblin?

Context or no, I see little reason why he had to rely on such inflammatory use of the "k-word." It speaks quite a lot about his character, in my opinion. In fact, it says quite a lot about *your* character that you would defend this behavior.

I remember when Dr. Hamblin, under a pseudonym, tried to argue with me that natural selection is a tautology. You know, it's just saying survivors survive. It's an argument even the young earth creationist organization Answers in Genesis tells creationists to give up. Good times. Anyway, the best Dr. Hamblin argument I've seen was his insanely naïve calculations of the probability of Smith "guessing" Book of Mormon names, which got all the more surreal when pseduoscientific probability concepts from the intelligent design movement got incorporated into the conversation. At the time, I just thought it was hilarious how he was making a fool out of himself given how looked up to he was on the board, but in retrospect, I feel some pity there.

Truly a fearsome opponent. Lucky for us he's not here.

There's a difference between saying racist things and, effectively, quoting racist things.

You know, I could have written the same post as Hamblin's about MADB. Other than the profanity, I've seen everything that Bill noted on the MADB board.

Is he right about RfM? To a certain degree, sure he is. There are some mightily pissed-off people there, petty and shallow, and definitely not recovering. But there are some wonderful, thoughtful, helpful, and supportive people there, too. Again, I'd say exactly the same thing about MADB (and MDB, too).

He was effectively quoting -- i.e., imitating -- vocally obnoxious anti-Semites in order to make his point. That was the purpose of the thing.
