Re: Mormonism 101
your semantic point is noted.
what is also agreed is that Mormonism 101 does not explain what any of us were taught. it does not describe the real beliefs of the church. we did not grow up in a church that taught us that we have the SAME concept of god as every other christian. we were not taught that our beliefs regarding heaven were taken from the Bible, rather, we were told that joseph smith restored the gospel in its purest form and he told us EXACTLY what this new plan was and how it worked. we all could draw little diagrams and circles of where and how heaven was laid out. and we were taught, and we believed, that exaltation meant we too would be like god, with our own worlds to populate and lord.
Mormonism 101 does well to try and pass this church off for something it never was and is not currently. that is dishonest.
pretending that what the church is spinning is fine because well, the church doesn't actually teach anything and its doctrine is all suspect and subjective, is not the model we grew up with.
according to the Mormon church of otterson, we don't really need the church anymore. the jews will be fine without baptisms. celebrities are fine without it. we don't believe in god, nor do we believe in a heaven that is any different from the protestants and catholics. we are all Mormons til we are 115 years old and women lead the church. hell, we are unitarians too. we love our women to lead a congregation from the pulpit.
people that are making excuses for what otterson is selling, should not also be saying they know the church is true and that joseph smith was a prophet, because the church is distancing itself from smith and honesty as fast as they can. they want to be something different going forward. who knows what that is, but it is not what we grew up with.
oh. and yo mamma does not wear one piece garments, they are all two piecers now. except for boyd packard, he loves him some one-piecers still.
by the way. i don't miss the old church either. i just think the new form of lying by otterson and his posse is disgusting. and, it is sickening to see the leaders passing it off as just the newsroom and the members excusing it because it makes them feel more assimilated in the group they have long referred to as the great and spacious building tenants, and whores of all the earth.

"Rocks don't speak for themselves" is an unfortunate phrase to use in defense of a book produced by a rock actually 'speaking' for itself... (I have a Question, 5.15.15)

They straight up lie about polygamy. There are living members who are sealed to more than one woman.

From what I can tell from material others have quoted, we are missing the wisdom found in such learned tabloids as the New York Post...

Since the Post articles are likely behind a paywall I may be missing an opportunity to get something free. But then (as I think you are implying), free things are not always worth what you pay for them.

Happy to help...[/quote]
whatsoever my servant hath put upon them, in time, and through all eternity; and shall be of full force when they are out of the world; and they shall pass by the angels, and the gods, which are set there, to their jexaltation and glory in all things, as hath been sealed upon their heads, which glory shall be a fulness and a continuation of the kseeds forever and ever.
20 Then shall they be gods, because they have no end; therefore shall they be from aeverlasting to everlasting, because they continue; then shall they be above all, because all things are subject unto them. Then shall they be bgods, because they have call power, and the angels are subject unto them.
And such is their divine nature. Matt. 25:21; D&C 132:37. TG Exaltation; Man, Potential to Become like Heavenly Father.

It is not semantic at all. Most do not check the footnotes. I did. and here is what it means to partake of the divine nature of god: Matt. 25:21; D&C 132:37. TG Exaltation; Man, Potential to Become like Heavenly Father.
What is the problem?
And here is the meaning of everlasting:
1 And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.
2 In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.
3 And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him:
4 And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads.
5 And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.
Who are they?

So yes, LDS do believe they can become Gods.
Thanks for reinforcing the answer to your question...
In your quotation I don't read that we all can become gods. I just read that in the heavens there are many gods. Nothing in the quotation was in the first or second person.

They become partakers of his divine nature. What does that mean? it is up to interpretation. What does it mean to become like heavenly father? I see no gods ruling their own planet, separated from heavenly father.

Fortunately the Gospel Principles manual comes to your rescue...
Those who receive exaltation in the celestial kingdom through faith in Jesus Christ will receive special blessings. The Lord has promised, “All things are theirs” (D&C 76:59). These are some of the blessings given to exalted people:
1. They will live eternally in the presence of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ (see D&C 76:62).
2. They will become gods (see D&C 132:20–23).
It is written in very clear, explicit language that even you can understand.
THEY WILL BECOME GODS
Now I know you want to make this say something else but the text is very unambiguous.
THEY WILL BECOME GODS
Go back to Church and study.

I wonder why Why Me wants to deny exalatation leads to godhood. When I was TBM back in the 90s this was one of the most exciting things in Mormonism. One of the peculiar doctrines that set the church apart from other religions. Mormons don't just go to heaven, they can be exalted as gods and goddesses. This doctrine was celebrated, and it was what all Mormons aspired to become. Back then, nobody was embarrassed by it. Even when the mainstream christians were critical of that doctrine, we were proud of it. Even today, as a non-believer, I think it's a cool doctrine.
