Wait.

Are you stating that I'm illiterate, too? You know... There's this thing called the Internet. On the Internet there's this nifty website called Google.

s***. What did I just type? I have no idea.

Then google it for me, because I'm not aware of any lawful Jim Crow actions that denied people the vote in government elections outright based on race. That was explicitly unconstitutional. Jim Crow voter suppression is instead refers to the old southern states enacting literacy tests, poll taxes, and elaborate, intimidating registration systems in ways that affected blacks in such disproportionate numbers that they comprised a very small % of the vote relative to their population. They were designed to skirt around the constitutional banning on denial of the vote based on race.

"When enforced?" No on forces you to vote early. If you're not sure who to vote for, don't vote yet. Take your time. No one forces you to vote early.

I'm going to go ahead and interpret your obstinate misunderstanding words you are reading and unwillingness to disagree with Jim Crow era literacy requirements for voting as you being in favor of Jim Crow era tactics for voter suppression. The voting rights act of 1965 is ultimately what stopped this practice. Would you favor repealing it?

Black people were statistically more likely to be illiterate at the time of literacy tests for voter registration in the old South. While the laws were structured to stack the deck against blacks even further - for example by giving discretion to the registrar how complicated of a passage a person had to read - even if their most benign they were structured to reduce blacks as an overall % of the electorate. Pointing this out isn't racist. And given your posts in this thread, it's no surprise that you appear all in favor of its later generational equivalents.

Ok. You're stating outright that Black people are generally more stupid than other demographics.

I don't believe White people have the right to infantilize others.

I absolutely believe all human beings are equal, have equal capabilities, and that in this day and age have equal opportunity to learn, act, and behave in a way that's conducive to civilized society.

Stating that there were higher levels of illiteracy in the black community at some time isn't infantilizing. It's admitting history, which included poorly funded segregated black schools.

I'm certain that you understand this.

Now you're whistling Dixie. I love being able to have a staggered vote so I do not have to stand in those god awful lines at the middle school.

Why eliminate popular methods of casting a ballot?
Why make it more difficult to vote?

These are the most relevant questions anyone has asked in this thread, and none of three champions of decreasing voting access (CamNC, bc and faqs) has attempted to answer them.

CamNC is doing nothing but trolling here, offering up only deliberately obtuse one-liners.

I do understand that, and I agree with you that underfunding our school systems only worsens the plight of poorest among us. That, however, shifts the burden of guilt onto others when the excuse for being this or that is because you don't have enough money. It doesn't cost that much money to crack open a book.

I'll take a shot at it.

1) Republicans generally view less early voting as an effort to reduce fraud and ease the workload on poll workers. I have no idea why eliminating early voting would reduce voter fraud. Maybe it has something to do with the kind of ID you must present which is pretty liberal at this point.

2) I believe Republicans view Sunday voting as the equivalent to Friday prayers. You're mixing religion and politics. That's bad when you disagree with their religion and their politics.

3) Voting is ridiculously easy to begin with. You simply have to register, and then go vote. You even have an absentee option.
