Markk, how does that make the Mopologist's position more difficult than the Calvinist's? I personally would love to have a discussion with a Calvinist about what s/he believes. Although I should say that I don't personally believe that God knows literally everything that us humans are going to do with our lives. God knows enough that He can make accurate prophecies about the future, but there are going to be some things that will happen that He didn't know would happen. For example, it's possible that He doesn't know whether or not I'll make it to the Celestial Kingdom.Markk wrote: ↑Sat Dec 31, 2022 7:11 pmIt puts the Mopologist between a rock and a hard space when they debate a Calvinist, in that the reformed position is that God knows all things including who will receive Him and who will not...while LDS doctrine and thought relies deeply on free agency and choice, which would mean that if HF knows all things, he knowable sends his children to an earth, fully knowing he will never see most of them again.

Rivendale, thanks for providing that link. I read the Declaration and Affirmation, and I'd have to say I'm not a transhumanist (yet), but I have no strong objection to their positions.Rivendale wrote: ↑Fri Dec 30, 2022 10:19 pmHere is a link that explains Mormon Transhumanism. https://transfigurism.org/Mormon-transh ... ffirmation

The Calvinist position is far more logically consistent than LDS position of "free agency" and God's foreknowledge.
But I'd love to see you back up your belief that God doesn't know who will make it with a quote from an apostle or prophet.

Gadianton, there are two camps within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, those that think God knows everything that will ever happen down to the smallest detail, and those that don't. If there existed a quote from an apostle or prophet supporting the latter, then the former wouldn't exist. For what it's worth, the Encyclopedia of Mormonism states that either viewpoint is compatible with LDS doctrine.
When you say the Calvinist position is far more logically consistent, what exactly does that mean? I don't know whether to agree with that or not, because I don't know exactly what you're saying. And if that position is more logically consistent, how about morally consistent? Doesn't the Calvinist God create people out of nothing, knowing ahead of time whether one will end up permanently suffering in Hell, or whether one will be saved in the Kingdom of God? How is that morally superior to the LDS version of God?

A perfectly ridiculous proposition. It's similar to saying it's o.k. to think that liquid water is wet, while others think it is dry, either view is compatible with water. NOTE: this is not saying water cannot be dry, it is a specific case of its property at a certain time in its existence with temperature that the ridiculous contradiction would occur.KevinSim
