This excellent observation still applies to DCP’s latest post on the matter. He can’t have it both ways.
The other nettle for Peterson to grasp is this: If the CK is where men and women will continue to have sex and produce children, then Nelson will be having sex with both Danzel and Wendy. Nelson will be living polygamously. As will Oaks. As will Young. As will Smith. Although Smith’s eternal sex ring will be complicated by the fact that some of his wives will have other husbands. So for the Nelsons, as an example, how will the logistics work? Will they reside in the same place as a thruple? Will there be one bedroom or more than one, and why? Will Nelson be getting them both pregnant, regularly, for eternity? (Imagine that ladies, an eternity of bearing and rearing children - that's your 'heaven'). If Nelson stops getting both his eternal wives pregnant on a regular basis, will he be relegated to a lower kingdom commensurate with his lack of activity? If Danzel or Wendy transgresses and has to be relegated to a lower kingdom, who gets the kids? If Nelson gets his own dominion (as per the doctrine) will he need to impregnate a 'Mary" within that dominion, and if so, does that not qualify as cheating on Danzel and Wendy?

The best way to see the stupidity of Mormon doctrine is to think about it really hard, in terms of what the practicalities of it are...
I suspect that if Mormonism were true (it's not) then Daniel Peterson's own wife will be sharing him with at least one, and maybe an endless number, of other wives.

The deep doctrine is that polygamy was only revoked in mortality. The requirement in the afterlife has never been explicitly revoked, and as you point out it has been implicitly supported by continued modern day sealings to multiple women.

So much for DCP having the moral high ground.

There is a lot of modern Mormonism that isn’t in the Book of Mormon.

The restoration = freedom to make up new things.
I don’t find it surprising that there has been additional light and knowledge made available to this ‘generation’. It has always been so throughout Judaeo-Christian history hasn’t it?

The question I suppose that I would ask is how many of us want to ‘procreate’ and be directly responsible in some form, or fashion, for ‘eternal increase’? And more importantly, how many of us are confident that God would be able to trust us to not ‘mess things up?’.

I think that MANY of us, even those in the church living their covenants made with God, question whether or now we will ever be worthy or capable of taking on such a HUGE responsibility. The question might be asked…is there a path that leads in that direction? If so, what is it? Latter-day Saints do have an answer to that question.

I’m not sure that any other religious institution that I’m aware of has given a stable/firm answer on this.

by the way, as for beliefs about sex and gender, I think Joseph Fielding Smith's basement speculation about humans in the eternities shows his struggle to maintain Mormonism within such strict thinking. He refers to men and women such that he directly contradicts himself unless he's trying for a separation between gender and sex. What he seems to want to say is that there will be people of the genders "man" and "woman" in the lower kingdoms, but they won't biologically be "man" or "woman".

I think it would be quite appropriate for Mormon doctrine if not necessary to make this distinction. Otherwise, there is no awareness of their second or third-place status. If I'm in the T thinking of myself as a man but either without the equipment or with non-functioning equipment suited for the biological tasks of a man, then that is a real punishment. However, if I don't identify as a man, then nothing is lost. I'm not thinking about how much better off those in the C are than I am because they are fundamentally different creatures. Just like I don't greatly envy birds for having wings because I don't psychologically identify as a bird.

No he can't. But he'll try!

The Book of Mormon specifically states twice that in the resurrection for both the righteous and the wicked "there shall not so much as a hair of their heads be lost" and "a hair of the head shall not be lost." Well, what about the rest of the body and so-called "perfect frame?"

If you were an active and believing member, I don't see why you would feel under obligation to have more than one wife in the 'sealing' sense. As a non-believer I question why you personally spend so much time worrying about others and what they do or don't do. Doesn't your 'one wife' keep you busy enough?

I'm assuming you're married...to one wife. ;)

Exactly. The irony is that many other religions understand this and so discuss religion on a faith-based level. When a philandering cheat starts your fake religious cult not that long ago, focusing on practical details always seems to go badly.

It does come down to whether or not "faith based" actually attempts to answer some of the hard questions. Mormonism does that. Whether or not we can understand all the logistics is another matter. The world is a pretty complicated place. My guess is whatever heaven looks like it's rather more complex and expansive than you might think. Oh wait, you don't believe in ANY heaven or hell. So, what are you doing here dissing what others think, one might ask.

What you think doesn't really matter. Especially if it's basically nihilistic. That doesn't do anything for people that believe in God. As I've said before, you don't have anything to really offer.

If LDS theology gives a bit of flesh to 'how things work', that actually matters. Even if you don't like it because you can't wrap your mortal mind around it...or at least what might know about it.

Nihilism offers nothing except lack of hope. Yeah, that.
