Kind of like Alma. ;)

I am, fortunately, a lowly never-Mo. So my blood was never changed and so on and so forth.

Heh. I overlooked the possible confusion. I should have said "Alma the Younger".

I'm always curious as to why never-mos are interested in the church and even know quite a bit about it. Is your spouse LDS?

I've also spent a fair amount of time studying the Quran and thinking about its origins as well.

I should probably include the Bible in this group as well - one of the most interesting books I have read, though not as scholarly, is the book "Who Wrote the Bible" by Richard Friedman.

Bah - my entire post disappeared.

I'll repost it later.

beastie - to answer your question: no, not my spouse, but I have an uncle and brother-in-law who are LDS.

The interest started for me about ten years ago, when I found out a guy I worked with was Mormon. We were talking about spiritual things and he told me he was Mormon - my initial reaction was surprise, and the next day the mishies were at the door. By the way, if anyone here served a mission in Omaha, Nebraska, in 1999, I send my regards.

I knew next to nothing about Mormonism, and they pretty much pushed me around, so I decided that I would learn more. I read and prayed about the book - though I should say I prayed about it before I read it, and then read it completely. It took me a number of years to finally come to a conclusion about its origins, and haggled over meaning of the "truth" of it.

I think the main reason for so much study is the puzzle - I've also studied the Quran and come to some conclusions about its origins as well.

At any rate, I work with several Mormons now and talk to them periodically about the book and things of that nature. One of my co-workers is a female who has been pressured into marrying by her family, so I feel like I am serving a purpose when talking to her about it, letting her vent and work through the issue.

Thanks for asking.

Thanks for sharing your background, Alma. I do think Mormonism is genuinely interesting as the puzzle, but then I have a strong personal interest that could bias that interest. It's always interesting to meet people without that possible personal bias who are still fascinated by the puzzle.

Hello,

I have to wonder, out loud as it were, what kind of effect the FAIR conference is going to have on Mormon Apologists' behavior? Will they stop being less aggressive and antagonistic? Or will they continue to interact with their "enemies" with as much enmity as they can muster? Will mandates like, "Love thy enemy." will continue to be ignored? This will be most interesting, this new season of fraternal love... Post FAIR conference!

Very Respectfully,
