Re: The coronavirus spread updated in real time
Here’s a Reddit thread where people who have it, or had it, describe their symptoms:
https://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comm ... osed_with/
tl;dr - We gon’ get sick, but probably not die.
My apologies to any MDB users who dislike Reddit links, but I find the aggregate social sharing useful and interesting.

One of the things that I don’t think is quite breaking through in the media coverage regarding most cases being mild is that “mild” includes what we normally think of as a horrible case of the flu.
I got a viscious case of the flu about two weeks ago. Worst I ever had it as an adult. It included shortness of breath. It was to the the point that my partner who is a nurse thinks I had corona. I am skeptical as no one around me subsequently got ill. I absolutely do not want to go through that again and that would be described as “mild.”

Uh, reading over that Reddit thread is basically exactly what I experienced even down to the recovery patten I am still going through. I probably should get tested when that becomes possible.

That percentage was based on experience in China, and “mild” covers a wide range. It includes patients who developed pneumonia. The 20% is composed of people who needed supportive care in a hospital to stay alive long enough to let the immune system kill the virus.

Did you get a flu shot this year? I think I read there were two strains floating around. I got my shot after my wife got the flu, so I’m not sure how much it helped me or not. Whatever the case may be, people here seem to be carrying on normally. In fact, word has it that our local theater had a wonderful play about something (it was amazing!) and it was packed. You can read all about on SeN.

I know this sounds ridiculous, but how does one do that? Do you just go to the ER and ask for a test? Do you have to pay for that? In my case I’d just to the VA and tell them I think I have it and then they’d give me Motrin, tell me to self-quarantine, and to come back if I’m dead.

I am not sure, to be honest. I know Dane county is setting up a drive through system.
I thought I had a unusual flu that was just real bad on my respiratory system. And I probably did. Flu is like that. But reading thise descriptions hit home in a way generic symptoms lists don’t.
For me, I just woke up one Saturday with a slighty sore, but very stuffy throat. My throat never progressed beyond mildly sore. Symptoms progressed over the next couple of days into persistent high fever, body aches, shortness of breath, severe loss of energy, diarrhea but no nausea, and finally a bad cough that felt like razor blades where at times I felt like I couldn’t breath. Mucus was stuck in some part of my airway until the bad cough, but I only ever had a slight runny nose. I interpreted this as flu. But the subjective experience of it was awful compared to any other time I have had flu-like symptoms.
Now I just have a cough and occasional chest pain that seems like it is gone, but then makes a comeback. Thanks living with a nurse, I can say my lungs have *sounded* fine the entire time.
So, probably a flu, but I guess maybe not? I do not want another ticket on that ride, though. Once is enough.

I didn’t get a flu shot. I am allergic to eggs, which usually precludes me from it. I rely on herd immunity. Only after getting the flu this year (I think) did I learn this year’s was actually a cell culture based one.

Res Ipsa - I know. What I am saying is I don’t think this is making it to public understanding because of how it is framed in the “don’t panic” coverage. When people hear “mild” they don’t first think that this means something closer to “not intubated.”

Yep. I’m saying the same thing.
