They're strawmen because she chooses to feel offended by sundry Church teachings or scriptural verses. The offense is not in the teachings or the verses, but in the one who feels offended. This is the burden of the Book of Mormon teachings on the subject; certain kinds of people take the truth to be hard. They are offended. They shake and tremble with anger.

Yet another individual, standing right next to the offended and enraged, may feel no anger or offense whatever, but indeed, feel completely comfortable with the ideas expressed.

The dynamics of offense are between the teachings and the individual, but the origin of the offense is within the offended.

I have stated more than once on this thread that I do not take offense at charity's words, but I believe her words (and the scripture) give offense.

Perhaps this is beyond your grasp. That's ok. I don't expect a whole lot from you.*

*demonstration of words that give offense whether or not you take offense.

I was just thinking how many more threads we could have if we gave one to everyone's offensive comments.

Sheesh, if we brought up every thing that Charity writes that is annoying, self-righteous, sanctimonious and judgemental....That's all we'd have on this board! Everytime I read a post of her's, I just shake my head, rub my eyes, amazed that someone can think and be like that.

Is it offensive? I guess to each his own. We can take offense at everything if we choose to. I just think that taking offense is so negative and plays right into the hands of TBM's that just love to label people especially EXMO's. We are all so bitter and negative, dontchya know.

I give a s***, yes. I just don't give a s*** about your opinions.

That's OK. I don't take it personal (agreement #2). Interesting how you DO seem to care what Charity's opinion is, however. Why does her opinion matter so much to you, Merc?

I dunno if her opinion matters to me. It matters to me in how I perceive the disconnected rantings of a TBM. Her actions speak to how the core Mormons view me. Her opinions matter to me because I get a better picture of true bigotry driven by a kooky religion.

But I love you Mercury. Even if you are a bigot driven crazy by a kooky religion.

Can you justify your comments or are you too busy blaming people for destructive weather still?

Sure I can take a break from that and justify my comments. I just love you cause it's in my nature. Besides, you seem a bit angry and your bitterness makes me love you all the more.

Someone told me once to love my enemies. It would drive them crazy. Is this an application of that theory?

Enemy? What enemy? Besides, clearly the man doesn't need to be driven...

Heh, I must not be your enemy, then. I guess I should try harder. :)

For the record, John is one of my favorite people in cyberspace. I don't even have to try to love him.
