Oh Shades, now you're just dick dancing around the obvious. Disabling the smilies is one of the rare forms of control you have over this board.

Of course it's about control. Sheesh. It if weren't there would be no reason to disable anything.

FYI: I don't have a strong opinion either way about the smilies. It's just that you seem to be oblivious to what motivated the people to make those two posts that you objected to. You've got people here posting pornographic film titles, one poster with Linda Blair in the Exorcist for their AV (forget who that is), but the one thing that you personally object to is the one that you choose to excercise control over.

Get in touch with your inner Lay King, Shades. Seek personal and reflective truth.

I disagree. You have never done a no holds barred trial where the people of MDB were allowed to use smilies. You limited it to 1-3 smilies per post.

Conduct a 4 month experiment. Allow smilies....no limitations.

This is what I predict you will see. At first, there will be a lot of smilie use. As time goes on, the use will gradually decrease as the novelty wears off. But, they will still be available for use when needed.

Why not try it? What is the harm? If I'm wrong, you get rid of them again.

You just said stated that we are no better than MAD. I think you're wrong..and would like a chance to prove it.

I try to ignore the hickeys on my neck, but you keep giving them to me!

If I were giving them to you, you'd be too weak to type on that keyboard.

It's not about control. It's about aesthetics.

Why not just spare the hassle and disable them right now?

But, they will still be available for use when needed.

They are available:

is one smiley a spin off of one pair of earrings? ; is there a little Hinckley in Dr. Spades or a little Dr. Spades in Hinckley.

we also need more than smiles: my motorcycle board has things that would make Paul O. blush :)

The overuse of smiles is an outward sign of a society in decay. Where would the collective literary level of the Western world be at if Shakespeare, Hemmingway, John Steinbeck, Stephanie Meyers and other notables had stooped to this base form of expression? I applaud Dr. Shades efforts in setting the bar a little higher.

I'm in total agreement with ya Inc.
I think it would be morally right to lie about your religion to edit the article favorably.

Hey, I happen to believe that the resurrecting of smiley spirits from the dead in the Shades universe would be a miracle for everyone to witness and would bring joy this Christmas season. That would be no small thing!

Behold, this is my work and glory, to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of smilies! I am the God of smilies! Liz is their Savior. Jersey Girl is their Holy Ghost. Cupcake Queen is their prophet. We have a work to do.
