When I posted the opening post, I was upset. I definitely feel awful for this young man.

A young man's mother is upset that the Bishop has taken away his ability to use images of young woman as objectified, morally and personally deracinated objects of sexual desire to gratify uncontrolled urges for sexual release?

Interesting, especially as the very early feminists expended a great deal of ink and breath denouncing pornography in precisely these terms. The Church has long denounced it in similar, but loftier terms (as the grossest disrespect for femaleness itself and the debasing of the sacred nature of sexual desires and feelings and their legitimate purposes).

Both the philosophical and moral shallowness here is all but breathtaking.

You're just going to have to start reading posts before you respond. I didn't ask for any "details" of anything. Madison never made the actual reasons why the Bishop locked the cellphone clear, and that didn't come out until well down the thread. That's all. I guessed that was probably the reason but wondered why that wasn't made clear at the outset.

As I said, I guessed, but wanted to be sure so as to be accurate in any analysis. After all, it could have been homosexual porn, not heterosexual titillation, which adds a twist to the entire masturbatory (and church standard) mix.

No. Its about addiction (and primarily my long experience with alcohol and my own theories/perceptions of addiction and "recovery") and it briefly touches upon pornography, pornography addiction, and the cult or eroticism that created and sustains it. Its become a problem in the Church now, as well as in the secular world, and the two syndromes share similar features - albeit different core meaning.

Looking back from a position of sobriety at my alcoholism, the addiction syndrome itself appears even more insidious than it seemed when I was drinking, and pornography is as insidious and destructive of the spirit as anything conceivable within the realm of human experience.
