Everything we've studied so far in this thread is meaningless fluff. When are we going to get to the important biblical questions, like why does opening the ark of the covenant only melt your face if your eyes are open?

Jesus taught us we can sin all we want, ultimately. He died so we could, so forget Jesus and concerns of sin. Let's talk about something that matters. Face melting.

The quoted scriptures seem to support this.

Christianity seems to be deceptive in so many ways.

An estimate built upon other peoples skulls is likely to be in the correct general ballpark of appearance. It is possible he did not usually have the same sort of dopey someone kicked me in the rear expression as this picture.

Pictures in churches are symbolic representations. I would not consider that deceptive until somebody starts to use them for white supremacist purposes.

Hey POMM

Perfume on my Mind wrote:Jesus taught us we can sin all we want, ultimately.

I think you may have the wrong understanding of what Jesus taught about sin. Jesus very clearly taught us to repent.

Here are just a couple:

Mark 1:14
14After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God. 15“The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!”

Matthew 4:17
17From that time on Jesus began to preach, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.”

Whether or not we are willing to admit it - there is something wrong each and every one of us - All of us stand in place where we need to be forgiven by an Almighty, Holy God and all of us need to change. While we are living in our sin (and we all do) we are separated from The Holy God. God has provided a way to be reconciled with God and God has provide a way for all of us to be brought back to right standing with God - This reconciliation and return to right standing does not come from us or by us - It was all done (100%) by Jesus on the cross. It is by God's enormous grace, deep love and desire to bring us back to him that this "Good News" is found in the Bible.

He died so we could, so forget Jesus and concerns of sin.
Jesus willfully died (for us) and rose from the dead. If we reach a place to surrender our will/desires/control and accept Him as Lord of our life (This is an extremely difficult thing for us humans to do, no doubt) the Lord will accept all of us - no exceptions, Jesus brakes the chains of bondage we are under from sin, brings peace to our lives, and by the power of the Holy Spirit, radically change our hearts and mind - This isn't making a better you - This is like the old you is dead and you are born again. It's a super-natural transformation that is completely unexplainable.

John:3
Jesus Teaches Nicodemus
1 Now there was a Pharisee, a man named Nicodemus who was a member of the Jewish ruling council. 2 He came to Jesus at night and said, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs you are doing if God were not with him.” 3 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.” 4 “How can someone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!” 5 Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. 6 Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. 7 You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’ 8 The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.” 9 “How can this be?” Nicodemus asked. 10 “You are Israel’s teacher,” said Jesus, “and do you not understand these things? 11 Very truly I tell you, we speak of what we know, and we testify to what we have seen, but still you people do not accept our testimony. 12 I have spoken to you of earthly things and you do not believe; how then will you believe if I speak of heavenly things? 13 No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven—the Son of Man.

God desires all of his creation (us hunan beings) to return to him - that's why Jesus paid the price, in full, and purchased us all.

Fortunately, God's enormous Grace and love abounds - He is extremely patient - He has very long wick but his wick is not infinitely long.

Well sure. Repentance is the ticket. Sin. Repent. Sin. Repent. Rinse. Repeat.

Easy peasy.

Reminds me of Emo Philips: I once prayed to god for a bicycle and was reminded that's not how god works. So I stole the bike and asked him for forgiveness.

I forget if Christians believe Jesus will burn or cleanse the Earth when he returns? I know Morms believe it - D&C 101: 24-25

Kind of hard to lock down the God is a God of love thing when you create a Satan, drown your creations, and then will burn them because, you know, you love everybody so goddamn much.

I find the whole idea of Christ's atonement both irrational and abhorrent. There is no sense or justice in the idea that an innocent and totally blameless being has to be cruelly tortured to death before anyone else, however repentant, can be forgiven for one's sins. One critic, whose name I forgot, brilliantly described the atonement (paraphrased) as God having to sacrifice himself to himself to save us from punishment that he himself was going inflict upon us, even if we repented, unless we acknowledged his sacrifice. Is it really so hard to understand why reasonable people would find this absurd?
No precept or claim is more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.

Here is a perfect example of a repentant sinner for Ceeboo. The cause of his major sins was Evolution! But yes it's a good thing that God's wick is very long and that Jeffery got into heaven before the end of that wick was reached.

Jeffery and Jesus
