You're not looking at what God hath wrought in this. You need the gift of discernment to see God's hands in this supposed tragedy. The children killed will surely inherit the Celestial Kingdom and Jesus will triumphantly come again to bless his people.
His prophet was surely stopped from warning the people ahead of time and it was wise of God to do so. Just think of what would happen had He done so. Nelson would have had instant fame and an instant curse for future prophets seers and revelators. Sure, there would be push to have Bednar be president of the US in order to have God lead the country finally. But at what price? Magic underwear becoming popular? The power to not be healed by the medical establishment or the power to not have plenty while the church multiplies their stock gains or to not win a war with China and/or Russia because the fearless leader was too full of himself? No, no, a wise creator did not want that and so it is well that the floods came without rescue from above.

Myth is misused by the powerful to subjugate the masses all too often.

Why do I have the feeling that if the prophet started making a series of perfectly accurate predictions of the future that it would only lead to widespread conspiracy theories that the Church was using their funds to incite the very things being predicted? In gathering their wealth they have buried themselves in a hole.Dr Exiled wrote: ↑Fri Jul 11, 2025 2:07 amYou're not looking at what God hath wrought in this. To which MG replies:Chap wrote: ↑Thu Jul 10, 2025 11:17 pmWouldn't it be great if it stayed that way? But extreme weather events are now occurring at decreasing intervals.
Why? because the atmosphere is being warmed up by the effect of higher levels of CO2. If air is hotter:
1. It can carry a heavier load of moisture that it will eventually dump as heavy rain.
2. It has more energy to drive higher winds and hence more damaging storms.
Quite what praise your deity has deserved as a result of all those innocent kids being drowned, I can't see. But if it makes people feel better ...
If your deity has any rationality, I think he would be saying something like "Yeah, yeah. Thanks for saying all those nice things. But you know what I really want? I want you to get on with caring for and comforting the survivors, and then get yourselves sorted out, install decent alarm systems and PLEASE, PLEASE, stop destroying the nice supportive natural environment I set you up with. That stuff in your skull is called 'brains'. Start using them.'
He also favours posters who express views similar to mine with such treasures of apologetic rhetoric as:
Rinse and repeat.
You would, wouldn't you? I'll bet He does.
We are in "Emperor's new clothes" territory here, aren't we? People who point to the obvious, even ridiculous, flaws in the Mormon version of the Abrahamic deity are 'just so unsophisticated, my dear'.You're on a roll! Keep it up!
Let us remind ourselves: a reading of Doctrines and Covenants reveals a deity prepared to intervene in the minutiae of human life - such as dictating the precise investment structures and stock issues to get Joseph Smith's house built. And so on, at great length in fake Bible English. But not destroying the environment? Making sensible provisions for disaster prevention? Naaah. He has more important things to do.
But don't forget to praise him a lot, even when really bad things happen. He really needs that constant reassurance that whatever he does or doesn't do, his special people will never, ever question his behaviour.

Re: Texas flooding
“God” is just a label people put on stuff retrospectively to make themselves feel better about bad things, coincidences, mortality, and lucky escapes.
In this situation the question has to be asked, if God was there for the survivors, why wasn’t he there for the victims? Why does God only show up after the event?

Premise 1. Eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable.
Premise 2. The best evidence for the Book of Mormon is eyewitness testimony.
Conclusion. Therefore, the best evidence for the Book of Mormon is notoriously unreliable.

Actually, no - we are not "talking about the Creator of all things".
MG is claiming that such a creator, whom he has chosen to believe in, exists, and is the subject of the conversation.
Many other participants in the conversation reject that claim due to lack of convincing evidence.
However, if others accept, simply for the sake of argument, that such a creator exists, "He doesn't quite have it all together." is a pretty good and defensible position to take.

I cannot think of any religious tradition where the prophets role is to make a bunch of accurate predictions. To lead clarify and inspire would be more the job. Of course that leaves plenty of room to hope for more inspiration and help with social issues.Ego wrote: ↑Fri Jul 11, 2025 3:53 am

Re: Texas flooding
It is quite evident, is it not, that Mr. Nelson is occupied with far greater things than warning folks about natural disasters. After all, what could be more significant than foreseeing the future of the stock markets and other investment arenas?
