Yep, that just irritates me that you enjoy discussing promiscuous women (apparently 3 partners according to you) and placing them into a category of mental disturbance that does not fit under the DSM for 20+ years within a thread about rape.

I'm pretty sure I've spoken out against character assassination plenty of times. I've sent PMs to mods to ask that personal information be removed. I asked that jskains personal information be removed as well.

Trevor made a remark about character assassination in the Ray Mormon John thread. I mentioned that it was a personal attack and had nothing to do with the Church. Sethbag said it was over the line as well.

As has been pointed out, the issue at hand here isn't severity of personal attacks. The issue here is moderatorial double-standards. You're right, personal attacks--some of them quite severe--happen on both message boards. However, moderatorial double-standards happen only on MA&D. Here, offenses aren't noted according to whether the offender is a believer or a disbeliever--that only happens on MA&D. There is no hypocrisy here.

I realize this is a lightly moderated board. I don't expect Dr. Shades to jump in. But did you notice all the LDS who jumped to your defense over there runtu? And where were my defenders here?

We're not discussing what the powerless individual posters do or don't do. We're talking about what the moderators--the ones with the power to suspend or ban--do or don't do.

If they were at least removed from the main thread, that may reduce their impact. I think moderating them in order to "limit" them may be problematic, since one person's idea of a personal attack can be quite different than someone else's.

Which is precisely the reason we don't touch them.

I believe that in order to maintain "fairness", such as it may be, the current hands-off policy should be maintained.

Why don't we make up whatever rules we want to maximize the number of perceived offenses? We could say, anytime someone sees a personal attack on their wife and daughter within a comment about the church's sexism, that we take that as a personal insult to our cousin Ricardo, who is the most loved cousin in all the family, and simply doesn't deserve that kind of treatment.

Sweet! While we're at it, we could lobby to ammend the constitution to make it a capitol offense too. I mean, as long as we're being irrational and all we might as well go all the way. Do you think we could ammend the law so that "cruel and unusual" punishment doesn't apply to these sort of offenses?

I think this is my last post on this topic.

MA&D has made no secret of the fact that not all posters are considered equal. Scholars, pundits, big names, are a protected class. That serves a purpose. It is the protected class that keeps people coming to the board. Which may be why the MA&D board has almost 5,000 members, compared to the 535 of this board.

Seems to me like the MA&D MODs are doing the job they set out to do--making a place for people to engage in a high level of discussion about the issues. Are there occasional blips? Of course. This was one. Will got slapped for it. I would think the remarks by other LDS posters would have stung much more than a suspension would have.

Oh, and thanks liz and runtu. You have been supportive. But I do think it fascinating that the most outraged at Will sit on their hands when something comparable happens here.

Another p.s. The hope expressed that other faithful LDS will want to come here to discuss is a pretty vain one, in my opinon. Most people simply will not put up with the garbage that gets thrown at them. I am just a glutton for punishment, I guess.

I've known you a long time, Ray, and I've defended you both here and on FAIR/MAD. Scratch and everyone else here knows where I stand. That I haven't jumped into every thread does not mean I condone what people have said about you or anyone else.
