Themis,
My posts have been quite clear that our moral intuitions are reliable towards truth. How can you possibly read my posts and not clearly recognize that.

All communication relies, to a noticeable extent on evoking knowledge that we cannot tell, all our knowledge of mental processes, like feelings or conscious intellectual activities, is based on a knowledge which we cannot tell.

It's a simple question. What truths? Can you give an example?

Themis,
Torturing babies for pleasure is immoral. Murder is immoral, etc..

While I agree with you, this is only a truth because we as people have made it that. Now there are probably evolutionary reasons for such. I have no idea how reliability fits here.

Ahh, its the "etc." part where the troubles begin.

Themis,
Then they aren't truths, or facts that aren't reality based. They are socially agreed upon.

How would they be reality based anyways. It still works out to the same thing in a Godless universe or a God one.

Re: Conscientious Alternative to Mormonism
Themis,
The question isn't how would they. That's like saying how is the laws of the universe reality based, we know they are but we don't have to find out the exact how before we know that. They (moral truths or illusions) are reality based, either through the process of evolution or by a creator. My issue raised is that if they are merely (I mean by that 'only' and not instead of - they are products of evolution) the products of the process of evolution why are we or I duty bound to follow the prescripts of morality? We aren't - we are only practically when it suits our best interests whatever we define that to be. If they are created like the rest of the fabric of reality by a creator real duty isn't problematic.
It is absurd to claim it works out the same - it is two completely different ontological categories.

But, see, this is still a problem. Was it immoral for Moses to have all those babies and children and women and men murdered? Was it immoral for Nephi to murder Laban?
