Why not ask yourself why you support Pelosi's holding hostage these workers because you truly don't care about a single one these not-getting-paid federal employees....at least not more than you care about being just plain ole' anti-Trump.
I mean you know why Trump is doing what he is doing....why is Pelosi?....this latter reason is the more embarrassing reason by the way.
So yeah, from over here...Pelosi and Schumer are the hostage holders.

Nice try, but Trump already got what he requested, then forced the shutdown when he stomped his feet and threw a tantrum over wanting more cash than agreed to.

Pelosi has proposals to fund the government. What is Trump offering, and why should he be trusted to honor any negotiated agreement anyway?

Maybe you can tell us why Trump needs to shut down the entire government over .01 percent of the budget, or whatever today’s number is that you’re promoting. Clearly the legislation is there to fund the Government. Clearly the Democrats have this ready to go.

Tell us again why Trump can’t move forward with signing off on funding the government.

It is absolutely like that. Trump is making the demands without being able to justify them. His demands aren't being met. He's holding people hostage to his demands.

Here's another way to look at it: This shut down is the most socialist action the US has ever taken. The government has determined that individual liberty is of such insignificance the White House can demand individual citizens who work for the Fed must be compelled to serve the state without pay. In addition to those supposedly serving in critical roles, the White House has come out and said it will force employees at the IRS to work without pay because the needs of the state are absolute...at least when the state is threatening the entire country with an action that might blow back on the President. It expects workers to give their time, talent and energy to the state - no questions asked.

subgenius wrote:Why do you support Pelosi holding hundreds of thousands of government employees hostage over a .01 percent budget item? What exactly do you think would be the real impact of Pelosi emerging today and saying "In an effort to relieve the burden of hundreds of thousands of government employees I will fund Trump's wall"?

I will admit that there is some merit in that approach, but only because even if Democrats concede to Trump's demand concerning the wall, there is practically zero chance that the wall will actually get built due to many of the reasons that have already been given, not the least of which is that it is actually illegal because it is a treaty violation, as pointed out upthread by Kevin Graham.

As for opposing Trump's policies and actions only because it is Trump opposing them or doing them, this is nonsense. I do not oppose what Trump is doing only because it is Trump doing it. I oppose Trump because so much of what he is doing or proposing to do is corrupt, irrational, immoral and abjectly stupid. I still maintain that if you still can't see how willfully corrupt and pathologically dishonest and manifestly incompetent Trump is, you are yourself profoundly irrational, inherently immoral or both.

Good point. Trump has repeatedly proved throughout his life that he cannot be trusted to honor any agreement whenever he perceives any advantage to himself by dishonoring it.

Extremely well said!

I'm still waiting for subgenius to explain how building a way is OK when it is illegal. I thought Trump and the Republicans in general were respecters of the rule of law. I mean, that's why they hate immigrants so much. Nothing at all to do with racism. It is because they disrespect our laws.

Actually, I don’t think that’s hard, Kevin. There is a precedent for presidents withdrawing from or abrogating treaties. And wouldn’t he be in compliance with the treaty as long as the wall isn’t built in a flood plain?
